Necrom got Grimm, Sanzo and the Gan Guncatcher. Snipe got Jet Combat, Bang Bang Tank and Simulations. Grease hasn't got anything!
I watched episode 37. The introduction was humorous with Ryuuga demanding Sento to make him a coffee to blow Evolt's cover. He can destroy an entire civilization, shapeshift people, erase memories and possess bodies but making terrible coffee is always his crippling weakness!
When Evolt switched hosts, he coalesced with his DNA from Ryuuga leaving the latter unable to henshin.
Sento goes to collect Pandora's Box from nascita but Vernage teleports the base to a secret location to prevent him from taking it. Also, he can't activate the Evol Trigger due to Sento the human's plan forcing him (Evolt) to switch hosts too suddenly or something like that. This causes him to develop a grudge against Sento the human as he declares he will destroy his friends to torment him. So much for sentimentality, I guess that was Souichi after all. Unsurprisingly, he starts another ransom to get Pandora's Box.
As Grease and Rogue team up against Evol Rabbit Rider, Ryuuga grabs the Dragon Evol Bottle that was created from his body. Even though his DNA was taken, he's still the son of Evolt and succeeded in regenerating his Hazard Level and upgrading the bottle in to the Great Dragon Evol Bottle along with Great Cross-Z Dragon. His Great Cross-Z form stands up to Rabbit Rider and Magma has become even stronger.
Evol turns the tables by using the power of 3 riders' finishers to unlock the Evol Trigger and finally complete his ultimate phase. Ryuuga finds Sento discarded by Evolt but it's no longer the Sento we know. Katsuragi Takumi the Devil Scientist has returned.
I wonder how Ryuuga will react to Katsuragi plotting to murder him in the past and how Sento will cope with the guilt when he remembers all the terrible things he did as Katsuragi.
Looks like Evolt will possess Souichi once more. Damn, I thought he was going to return to the good side.

^ Ryuuga isn't Evolt's son. His mother was already pregnant with him when Evolt infected her (thus, he had a human father); he just contains DNA from Evolt. The line that O-T translated this week as "you are still my spawn" is more literally something like "you're still a fragment of me"

Ryuuga tries to fight him untransformed and gets severely beat up, but then the Dragon Fullbottle changes into an Evolt Bottle. He uses this in Cross-Z Dragon and gains the new form we saw in the preview - Great Cross-Z or something? Evolt and Cross-Z fight. Ryuuga now has part of Evolt inside him again so can use Magma. It's interesting that Evolt doesn't know how Ryuuga managed to use the Dragon Evolbottle, and then change it and use it in the upgraded dragon in the Build Driver. It's either from the Dragon bottle having been created from Ryuuga himself, or Evolt's DNA is still in him. |

No jokes in the recap this week.
Sento has completely lost his memories as Sento, and reverted to being Takumi Katsuragi. He recognises Evol and Ryuuga as the two halves of Evolt. Ryuuga is stricken by a flashback of Evolt on Mars. The Riders are unable to fight properly: all suffer shocks upon transforming. Evolt adds some Bottles to Pandora's Box. We skip the OP.
Evolt presents the Box to Nanba. Evolt has now returned to Souichi's appearance even though the real Souichi is still alive and in hospital. Katsuragi upsets Misora by telling her it was his idea to have Faust experiment on her, and Ryuuga by saying he doesn't believe they were ever friends. He reacts to the sight of Gentoku. Back at Nanba, Utsumi does ... something painful to the Washios (which looks like the Hazard Trigger process the Hokuto Trio went through) "for the sake of Nanba Heavy Industries." Evolt gives Utsumi orders (I can't understand this) but Utsumi gets upset and refuses. Gentoku and Katsuragi look at all the destruction caused by the war/Evolt and talk about their past together that led to this. There are some very powerful scenes where Gentoku sees Katsuragi as his original self but in Sento's clothes, this is pretty striking stuff.
Utsumi calls Gentoku and begs for help. He warns about Evolt's plan to take over Japan and destroy the world. Katsuragi works on anti-Evolt measures while the others have a "we hate Katsuragi" meeting upstairs and talk about how much they miss Sento. Gentoku returns and tells them what Utsumi said about Evolt's plan. Utsumi arrives for a planned meeting with Evolt, which is actually a trap for the Bros and Hard Guardians to destroy Evolt on Nanba's orders. Of course this completely fails and Utsumi is actually surprised, lol. But Katsuragi-Build and Rogue arrive and step in. Evolt easily overpowers them and says "playtime's over." For no apparent reason, he kills Rai Washio. Fuu tries to fight back against him but of course fails. Magma takes over the fighting, and Evolt tries to destroy him but is stopped by Fuu Washio taking the blow for him. Ryuuga gets a last moment with Fuu, who says "fighting for someone else's sake wasn't so bad ..." and disappears.
Evolt tells Katsuragi it's all his fault that people keep dying. Evolt teleports to Nanba's office and kills him as well, the body count is high this week! Utsumi is watching the whole thing on a tablet, but at this moment Evolt returns. He torments Utsumi by giving him Nanba's walking stick. Utsumi, who has completely lost his mind, snaps the walking stick and says he will serve Evolt. Evolt gives Utsumi a new Driver, completing his plan. Utsumi transforms into Kamen Rider Mad Rogue.
Next week: Katsuragi tries to destroy "Evolt" by defeating Ryuuga, and gets Genius Form. |

I watched episode 38. Evol inserts the Evol Trigger in Pandora's Box to create the Lost Panel and attaches 4 Lost Bottles. These will appear in the summer movie. Not sure what their purpose is yet.
After reaching his ultimate phase, Evolt is now a complete being and has shapeshifted in to Souichi's form, which means Souichi the human won't have to go through that again. This is similar to Ankh keeping the appearance of Hina's big bro.
Katsuragi sees a mirror for the first time since he was shapeshifted and tries to convince Misora that he's not the Devil Scientist they call him and that he was justified in volunteering her for Faust and plotting to murder Ryuuga. They still think he's the Devil Scientist as he lacks Sento's sense of morality. Katsuragi is only concerned with stopping Evolt rather than thinking about the collateral damage.
Utsumi receives an offer from the true Evolt to join him and overthrow Nanba as the minister but refuses out of loyalty to the Seito government. He contacts Himuro to call a truce between Touto and Seito to stop Evolt from destroying the world. Kazumin refuses due to holding Kiba's death against them.
Nanba traps Evolt in an ambush planning for the enhanced Bros to destroy him. However, they underestimated the strength of Evol Black Hole. The heroic riders arrive and Katsuragi displays a lack of skill using RabbitRabbit, probably due to losing synchronization with Satou Tarou's body. Instead of switching to TankTank, he tries to use the panel device and fails. I guess he's just not familiar with Sento's inventions.
Evol destroys Engine Bro leaving Hell Bro to avenge him. Cross-Z becomes the next target but Hell Bro intercepts Evol's finisher and admits it was good to fight for someone else before fading away. Maybe his redemption can now give closure for Hokuto Sentai's deaths.
Evol teleports to Nanba's office and Nanba begs for his life. Evol refuses. He gives Utsumi his cane and repeats his earlier offer: Join him or avenge Nanba. This is the crazy part, Utsumi actually accepts and breaks the cane in half. Evol gives him the other Evol Driver and he becomes Kamen Rider Madrogue just like I predicted. Unfortunately, I can't figure out Utsumi at all! So he's loyal to the Seito minister but it doesn't matter if it's Midou, Nanba or Evolt? I don't get his motivation anymore.
And that's not all, Evol says something unexpected, he no longer wants to destroy Earth since humans are so fascinating to him. Yeah, well, that sounds really sentimental! I mean, does he seriously just look for advanced civilizations to show them that science is destructive?

^ Utsumi spent his entire life being brainwashed to be loyal to Nanba. He knows nothing else outside of that life. Evolt destroyed that in seconds, and Utsumi has completely lost his sanity. He has just given in to Evolt because he can't win

I guess the contrast between him and Sawa is that Sawa was able to break free of Nanba's control and do the right thing; she's rewarded with the love of her friends. Utsumi had opportunities to do this and Sento and the others would have helped him, but ultimately he wasn't able to

I cannot remember the last episode of Build I watched. I know it was back in October. But I can't recall if it was before or after the debut of Build Lion Cleaner Form.

^ I think so, yeah. He probably has to, for Mad Rogue to be destroyed. And ... (This has already been revealed in scans that were posted here, so it's not really a spoiler, but I'll put it in spoiler tags anyway) The summer movie publicity shots show all the cafe gang, including Gentoku, but no Utsumi. That's not definitive proof, but I think if he were going to survive the show he'd have joined up with them - remember it's set after the events of the main show. They've also been doing publicity events for the movie and Utsumi's actor isn't there |
