I think there needs to be some clarification of my comment: Neither The Last Stand nor Dark Phoenix have chosen to tell the Dark Phoenix storyline as a "cosmic adventure" (despite the latter film involving a trip into space and an alien antagonist), and so if you disliked The Last Stand because it didn't tell the Dark Phoenix story as a cosmic adventure, you're not likelyto like Dark Phoenix's take on the story either

even though i am not a big xmen fan. It does suck the movies never tapped into the space stuff/space characters in the x family books. Maybe that is something marvel studios can tap into.

I would'nt want Marvel to spend the first few films trying to put "right" what Fox could'nt manage.
Adapt other X-Men stories, like the one where Magneto creates the pulse that knocks out the world's electronic systems

I think there needs to be some clarification of my comment: Neither The Last Stand nor Dark Phoenix have chosen to tell the Dark Phoenix storyline as a "cosmic adventure" (despite the latter film involving a trip into space and an alien antagonist), and so if you disliked The Last Stand because it didn't tell the Dark Phoenix story as a cosmic adventure, you're not likely to like Dark Phoenix's take on the story either. Actually, I didn't have a problem with the Last Stand trying to keep the Dark Phoenix subplot grounded on Earth. But, I personally had an issue with the movie trying to cram in far too many characters in one movie and trying to connect the Dark Phoenix saga with the Battle for the Cure storyline, because those two storylines didn't even need to brought together into an entire movie. If they wanted to focus more on the Battle for the Cure storyline, then they should have left out the Dark Phoenix saga and save that storyline for another future, solo two-part movie. Much like a pre-existing Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows, Parts I and II as I have mentioned earlier. I mean, when you compared the Last Stand to the first two original X-Men movies, they had only one storyline to focus and very few cast members to work with. This one tried too damn much by adding in too many characters and giving less focus on just one storyline to work with. And believe me, I have seen Batman v Superman and that movie tried to be more like "The Avengers", "The Dark Knight Returns" and "The Death of Superman" all at once. So, you can see how much of a mess that movie was for trying to cram in three different ideas into one, and it didn't work. What's even worse is that if you were to compare the Last Stand to Deadpool 1 and 2, Logan and X-Men First Class, yeah you might find yourself even more disappointed to know that the quality of those movies are vastly superior to the quality of X-Men: The Last Stand. And Logan and the two Deadpool movies are rated R and they have better writing and direction than the Last Stand. I wouldn't want Marvel to spend the first few films trying to put "right" what Fox couldn't manage. Adapt other X-Men stories, like the one where Magneto creates the pulse that knocks out the world's electronic systems. My thoughts exactly. I mean, yeah! The Dark Phoenix saga is iconic and all, but not a lot of people care about that storyline, and they would prefer that Marvel Studios should adapt other X-Men storylines besides the ones that were already done by 20th Century Fox. I mean, hell!!! I wouldn't mind seeing Marvel Studios film adaptation of the X-Men in the Savage Land storyline. Or the one storyline about the Island of Genosha, or or how about Rogue's origin story and how she got her super-flight and super-strength abilities from Captain Marvel. Yeah, I am pretty sure that also happened in the comics since it was adapted into an episode of the 90's animated series.

xman: I'm a person who believes that every one of the "core" films in the XMCU - including The Last Stand - has been of similar quality ranging from great to excellent, so I respect your feelings on TLS whilst disagreeing with them.
The "anti-TLS" crowd is convinced that Dark Phoenix intentionally "echoing" TLS is a sign that the film will be bad, but I personally love that they're keeping a lot of things the same while also making changes.

Personally I felt x3 and apocalypse was the weakest of the x films. Not the worst films ever but had some bad points in them.

So film is out now. I just got home from my screening an hour ago. I enjoyed the film. First sucks Stan didn't have a cameo for this movie. Though he hadn't done one for all the xfilms. But I did enjoy the movie.
Definitely a better take on this story then they did in x3. So I was happy about that. The story moved along well and had some great action pieces. Also the mains I thought where used pretty well. And had some good moment during the film.
It would have been nice if the aliens in the film was the she ari empire vs what ever generic marvel aliens they used. But I am god it wasn't skrulls as that would have been weird if the fox deal didn't go through and have 2 different set of skrulls in film. But it was a solid wrap up to the fox films I thought.
Now I am curious to see what marvel studios will do with characters and the f4 once they set up there plans. Xmen I am curious to see how they will fit into current mcu time line and or get retcon in past history. Same goes with f4. Though I feel f4 world be easier to explain the x world for mcu.

Well their kinda not done with the X-men universe yet. They still have the final season of Legion, and the final X-men universe film New Mutants.

Definitely a better take on this story then they did in x3. Actually, I kind of think X-3 did it better compared to this film. X-3 had a more reallistic explanation for Jean's Phoenix power. Sometimes comics accuracy can be a bit silly. Using aliens and whatnot just doesn't fit this series of movies. I appreciated there were virtually no quips (unlike every bit of MCU trash), I liked that Xavier had become so full of himself that it takes just one mistake he made in the past to completely deconstruct his future. I cheered when Mystique bought it (especially after that "X-Women" line) I laughed at Scott trying to be a hardass in one scene, and the train set piece was a good spot to finish on. The movie's still bad, but it wasn't awful. And it's still better than Captain Marvel.
