Kyuranger episode 39: I want to do a post for every episode, and I still will, but it's getting harder and harder to commit to doing these in a timely fashion like I wanted, and I've never been able to put my finger on why, until now. "Boring" is not a word I typically like to use to describe things, because it's hard to quantify what the root of the problem is. You can quantify a good show as a show with good writing, good characters, and good direction, etc, and you can do the same for bad shows, even though these are all subjective, but a show can be boring whether it's good or bad, and it's hard to articulate that lack of interest, and the whole point of me doing these is that I wanted to learn to be articulate when analyzing this show. I think Gaoranger is boring, but it has it's merits, and I don't think it's a bad show, but I think Megaranger is bad and boring, but those are sentais I've went back and watched. This is my first time feeling this way about a sentai I've been watching week to week.
I used to look forward to doing these and to putting thought into breaking down these episodes, but now I either watch Kyuranger with my eyes glazed over, or in astonishment over the stupidity I just witnessed, trying to find the words to explain what I've just seen, or even the willpower to do so. I used to be able to say that Kyuranger, as a whole wasn't a bad show, just a mediocre one, because while we got a lot of stupid episodes, we still got some great episodes and great moments, but now I'm not sure I can say that anymore, because that's all only in the first half of the show. In the 2nd half, we get either meh or just straight up terrible episodes, and this is one of those terrible ones. I hated this episode. I'm losing my patience with Kyuranger.
The Good: I got nothing.
The Bad: Where do I even start? I already didn't care about the fact that they brought Madako back. I hated the LARP bullcrap. Stinger singing his lines was obnoxious, and him singing to Champ was just cheesy, even too cheesy for this show. I was curious to see how they explained the professor being back, and I hated the explanation. I'm okay with him augmenting himself to live longer, but him having a split personality is lame. He couldn't have just been a guy who defected from Jark Matter. They had to pull this to justify bringing him back? I would have taken an evil twin over this. Also, they found a treasure chest that had the Kyutama in it? What happened to the empty Kyutamas? Are the directors even keeping track of this stuff?
Next episode: It looks stupid.

"I'm as big as a megazord. I'm like a Megaranger." Well, Brody, you're almost as dull and as boring as one, so you're not wrong. Yeah, one of my problems with this episode is something everyone else already pointed out. Everyone is super trusting with their power stars. Also, everyone is so nonchalant about the fact that Sarah just time traveled. I also didn't care for the cliched "You guys didn't get me anything for Christmas?" thing. I like this episode better than a lot of the terrible episodes of Ninja Steel, and despite the time travel and clip show aspect, this could have been a more solid episode. This just missed the mark for me. I'm giving it a 2/5.

Kyuranger episode 38: I did not like this episode. I would have written this episode off like I did episodes 14 and 27, if it wasn't for some genuinely good moments.
The Good: I like the flashbacks with Kuervo. Why does the guy who's currently dead get more development and is more likable than half of the main ranger cast in this show? Hell, that goes for Kuervo and Takumi from Build. I like Tsurugi in this episode. It's funny how much I hated him in those debut episodes, but I think he's one of the better characters in the show now. I like the idea of Xiao being worried if he's being a good leader or not. I like that whole conversation with Tsurugi and Xiao because it reminds me of Gokaiger with Marvelous and Don. As for some jokes that I like, I'm counting this one as a positive and a negative, but I thought the dancing scene was kinda funny. I also like Naga breaking the fourth wall, and I like Xiao saying "Yossha Lucky". Also, Ryutei-Oh using Gigant Houou's rockets as arms is cool.
The Bad: Pretty much everything else in this episode. I hated the trials. I have no words for how stupid those scenes were. Aside from that conversation and in the action scenes, Xiao was freaking annoying. I'm sick of the back pain joke. When I have back pains, I can barely move, so why is he able to fight so well? It's just a cheap and lazy old man joke, and it's not funny. He almost ruined the dance scene which, by the way, I'm counting as a negative for more than just Xiao. I love sentai music, so I love the full version of the Kyulette song, and whenever anyone dances to it, it's gonna get a cheap laugh out of me, and I think it's funny, in a "this is silly and ridiculous and makes no sense, but I can't help but laugh" kinda way, but that's me being complete subjective. Objectively, I can recognize that this joke is overused and lazy. As a wise man once said in referring to another show, sometimes even when you have a good idea, you can use it over and over until you run it into the ground. As for the stuff with Madako, I didn't like that either. How many times have Madako died and come back? It's starting to hard to keep track of who's dead and who's alive. I know I'm gonna jinx things by saying this, but I'm surprised Eridron and Ikagen haven't came back.
Next episode: The professor being alive is interesting, but this episode still look stupid with this LARP bullcrap. I hated it in Ninninger and in Zyuohger, and I hate it here, too. I'm not looking forward to this one, either.

I liked this episode. I'm pretty much in agreement with everyone. I liked the ranger stuff, love seeing Mick (and by extension, Kelson Henderson) getting to be a Power Ranger, hate how convenient the Nexus Prism is, and hate the Victor and Monty stuff. This might be my second favorite episode, after Ace and the Race. I give this episode a 3/5.

Kyuranger episode 37: "Cut that out! They're not my retainers. We're on the same team." Don't bother, Lucky. That's not gonna stop people from thinking that about them, especially since you're an actual king now. Anyway, I thought this was an okay episode. I still can't get over the fact that this plotline should have happened 20 or so episodes ago, but the actual episode isn't bad.
The Good: If there's one good thing I can say about this episode, it's that this is a good Lucky episode. It's funny how far we've come where I went from thinking that this was gonna be another Takaharu to asking people why they even like him, and to saying he's one of my favorite characters in the show. I still stand by all the stuff I said before when I said them, but I don't feel that way anymore. I like the setup with Lucky's father supposedly having betrayed all of his people, and Lucky having to prove his innocence. I like the idea of Lucky's father being an imposter, and I like how Tsurugi was smart enough to figure it out. I like the idea of his father being dead the whole time, and I like how Lucky decides to avenge him. I also think this episode has his best use of "Yossha Lucky" because he says it in an ironic way out of sadness.
The Bad: Like I said, I wish this cam earlier in the season. Another problem I have is that when we get the reveal that Kukuruga killed Lucky's dad, it almost feels jarring because that was a smart idea, in a show so chockful of silliness and stupidity, but that's a problem with the show as a whole, not this episode. This might be a nitpick, but if water was the monster's weakness, you'd think they have some kind of device set up around the place to stop the rain. In all of that time, you'd think they would have came up with something. Also, seeing Kukuruga die before kinda took out the impact of this death. I also don't care for the fact that to break the force field around Jark Matter's homeworld, we have to collect another 3 kyutamas.
Misc: There's a kyutama just for creating a crown? Also, the name of it reminds me of the Corona Aurora. Also, there's 3 different water kyutamas?
Next episode: Looks stupid. Not looking forward to it. It's been hard enough to work up the energy to keep doing these, and this preview doesn't make it any easier.

^ First of all I am NOT insulting him or anything like that. Second what makes you think I'm an idiot? This season may be not all that good, but people thinking that this is the worst season ever? I've seen worst. I didn't call you an idiot for defending or liking this show. I said that you were in idiot if you think Japanime would pretend to hate anything to appeal to anyone. You were insulting his integrity, and you insult mine when you make snide remarks like "He gives almost every episode of Ninja Steel a 1/5. Nothing new". Like I said, I don't care if you like Ninja Steel, but if you're gonna get this up in arms every time someone says something negative about the show, I'm not the one with the problem. Also, we've all seen worse: Megaforce. Sure, there are people who think this is worse than Megaforce/SMF, but me and Japanime don't, and even if we did, we're entitled to those opinions, and so is everyone else.

You're right. It is just you. You are an idiot if you think Japanime is gonna crap on this show just for subscribers. He has more integrity than that. He doesn't need to pretend anything for anyone. I've seen people defend a lot of shows I don't like, but something about Ninja Steel is bringing out the worst in people, and I don't get why this season of all seasons. I read the comments on Shamus' reviews. It's getting to the point where some Ninja Steel defenders are getting obnoxious, and I think it's uncalled for. I don't care that you like Ninja Steel, and you don't have to agree with or like Japanime or his reviews, but to insult him in that way, I'm gonna take it personal.
As for me, I'm not some troll that's gonna come on here and give Ninja Steel episodes 1's and 2's for no reason. Not that I need to say this to defend myself, but I gave Ace and the Race a 4/5. Also, I hate trolls, so I'm not gonna waste my time coming on here just to pretend to dislike this show more than I do. I'm gonna be honest, but I also have no obligation to come on here and give these episodes 4's and 5's if I don't feel it earned it. I'm giving this episode a 1/5. I think they made Sarah's mom too needlessly obnoxious to get this point across, the dialogue during the fights scenes went back to being annoying, I don't like the idea of Victor and Monty's supermagnet, and I don't like the idea of Victor and Monty being how Galvanax gets the ninja stars. I thought that was all just stupid. I liked the idea of them being so limited on ninja stars that they have to melt down old stars, which is a good way to explain away what happened in Ninninger when they stopped using some of the older shurikens, but then we get a whole Ninja Steel asteroid. Don't care for that. As for the stuff I did like, "Stop whimpering, fools" may be the most satisfying line in the whole show, and "This season finale will be one to remember" is the successor to "This is the most fun I've had all season". I loved those lines. Didn't enjoy the rest of this episode.

But Ninja Storm at least didn't do "Final Strike/Attack" and gave better names to things. I'll give you that one.

Also, "Storm Megazord" was one word away from "Ninja Storm Megazord", and "Thunder Megazord" was already used before.

Kyuranger episode 36: This episode is baffling to me. It's not bad, but I'm wondering, why are we dealing with this stuff now? I would have loved this kind of potential development to happen earlier in the show, so that we can get it over with and focus on the other characters who are severely underdeveloped.
The Good: I like the monster. I like the fact that it was this weird tentacle monster that was piloting a mech. I like the Gramps character, even if he was just there to be exposition. I like the Kojishi Voyager and Super Kyuren-Oh better than the default versions, and I wish they were the default versions. I like the plotline of them going to Jark Matter's homeworld, only to discover is covered by a galaxy-wide forcefield. I'm curious to see how they deal with that.
The Bad: There's some stuff that doesn't exactly add up to me. When Lucky said he wanted to see the edge of the universe in the premiere, he was lying? Why did he have to lie, and how was this never brought up at all after all of this time? I know he was focused on trying to save the universe, but I'm sure he could have taken some time away from dancing with Pega to worry about his father. It makes this plotline feel like an afterthought, like it wasn't planned at the beginning. Also, Caesar being Lucky's best friend as a kid is just plain sad.
Garu is so infuriatingly pointless. He had this great setup with his species or clan (still haven't made that clear) all being murdered, and him wanting revenge against Jark Matter. Do the writers even remember this? I feel like I'm the only person who remembers this, probably because it was the main thing that made his character interesting, at least potentially interesting. Now all we do is turn him into a joke of a character with this crossdressing bullcrap and that stupid thing with him not knowing that was Champ. You wanna know what episode I've been waiting for since the show started? An episode similar to The Southern Raiders from A:TLA (which is my favorite animated series, and that's my favorite episode). I would have loved to have seen an episode that had Garu come face to face with the guy who lead the attack on his people. It could have been a great character development episode for Garu, but now the extent of his character is being jealous that "Caesar" is Lucky's best friend? That's infinitely lame.
Also, Hammy, not everything is funny. You are a pointless waste of a character.
Also, why did that hit on his head hurt him when he's wearing a helmet?
Next episode: It looks like we're gonna be dealing with Lucky's father, who's named Aslan, because of course (I'm not knocking this. I actually like this). I hope it's a good character developing episode for Lucky, and not just nonsensical bullcrap.

Kakuranger, now it's time for your "seibai". This show sucks. I can't believe I've watched through 4 of the worst sentais I've seen so far, and they're all in a row. That's 200 episodes of bullcrap. I can't believe that SS crapped the bed on ninja sentais 3 times. I can't believe that out of all 6 ninja shows, Ninja Storm is the best one, and quite frankly, the only good one. Sometime down the line, we're gonna get another ninja sentai, most likely in 2025 (although I won't rule out 2024 or 2026), and I now reserve the right to not look forward to it for no other reason than it being a ninja sentai. Next up is Dairanger, then Zyuranger, then I will have seen every sentai that got adapted into PR, then it's Pre-Zyu territory, but honestly, I'm not even looking forward to these shows. It's hard for me to imagine any of these shows being good now, but we'll see. As for now, my ranking. I would rank Kakuranger the best out of all 3 ninja sentais, if it wasn't for that insufferable announcer. Now I'm ranking it the worst of the ninja sentais.
Current Sentai Ranking: 1) Gokaiger 2) Shinkenger 3) Gekiranger 4) Go-Busters 5) Magiranger 6) Dekaranger 7) Gingaman 8) Timeranger 9) Kyoryuger 10) Boukenger 11) Go-Onger 12) Goseiger 13) Abaranger 14) GoGo V 15) Zyuohger 16) Gaoranger 17) ToQger 18) Hurricaneger 19) Ninninger 20) Megaranger 21) Kakuranger 22) Ohranger 23) Carranger

^Enjoy Ninja Steel for what it is? I can't do that. I don't go into PR (or SS or KR for that matter) expecting The Dark Knight level of quality, but I do have standards. I did a rewatch of SPD a few months ago, and I'm looking at that show like, "I remember the good old days when the show managed to make me care". I just finished OOO, and am watching Build, and those shows blow me away with how good they are. If all of these shows can manage to be good, why should I have to lower my standards to enjoy Ninja Steel? Why don't the writers raise theirs? To be fair to Ninja Steel and Dino Charge, there are definitely stuff I like about these shows, and they have good moments, but even if we never get In Space or Time Force levels of quality again, they can do better than this.

^You say that like it bothers you for some reason. It doesn't. I can care less. My problem is if most people dont like the season, why the hell they're wasting their time watching it? Because of curiosity. Since I'm a fan of SS, I'm too curious to see how they adapt them into PR. I'm gonna be watching every PR season from now on, no matter how good or bad. The same with SS and KR. If you, or anyone else, likes this show, that's fine. I don't care. There's not a single person on this site that hasn't said at least one thing that I completely disagree with, and vise versa, so someone liking Ninja Steel is the last thing I'm worried about. However, I have no obligation to come on here and praise this show just because a lot of you guys like it. I'm gonna be fair to Ninja Steel, but I'm also gonna be honest, and say what I feel.

"These 3 things happened previously on Gokai Gaburincho's KR watchthrough: First, I finally finished OOO. Second, I find it's the best KR show I've seen so far, and I think it's brilliant. And third, I'm gonna be ranking it high." The theme of desire was handled brilliantly and thoroughly. Eiji and Ankh are now 2 of my favorite KR characters. This is one of the best duos I've seen in a toku show. This show has the best use of its gimmick (in this case, medals) I've ever seen in a KR show. I love the combos and their themes, which are some of my favorite KR insert themes. I've yet to see a KR show that I think is outright bad, but this is the first one where I have been fully enthralled from beginning to end (minus the anniversary episodes, because those were stupid). I've been hearing people call Gaim the best KR show ever, and I'm over here like, "Did you not see OOO?" I freaking love this show. This is now the one to beat. Build is brilliant so far, so it has potential, but we'll see. I'm on episode 46 of Kakuranger, and after I trudge through that, I'm doing Dairanger, and now that I'm finished with OOO, I'm gonna do W, but for my ranking, I can't give OOO anything other than the top spot.
Current KR Ranking: 1) OOO 2) Drive 3) Fourze 4) Ex-Aid 5) Gaim 6) Wizard 7) Ghost
