Well that sucks. Maybe in time they will do something with the idea.

A show about "Super Mega Evil Overlord Tommy" didn't make it?
Yeah, I can't say I'm very disappointed about that one.

The concept sounds cool but I honestly wouldn’t trust Saban not to mangle it.

Honestly speaking, I would just love to see this spin-off happen. Not because of Tommy (seriousely, the character was super-mega overused on the actual TV show), but because I'm very interested in the following: - who would they manage to bring back to reprise their roles; - what stories would be given to which character; - in what stories of which character would the all the other characters cross-over; - how would the characters, introduced troughout the franchise's course, be used; - how would the officially established TV series continuity be used and treated (or parts of it); - how would the officially established comic book series continuity (of which the TV series has taken notes from already) be used and treated (or parts of it); - what new characters would be introduced and how would they be used; - and, of course, how would the plot and the overall story develop and what conclusion it would have.
Also, would they use the official Ranger suits or the ones which would be spin-off exclusives? Besides, this would be the very first time we'd see the real Tommy turned evil and not an evil clone or just him being brainwashed. That got really old and it would be the perfect time and opportunity to finally attempt doing something different with the character, as well as do something different with the ones that are brought back with, of course, new faces being introduced and mixed into the plot & the storyline.

˄ I'm with you in everything. Probably the first thought would be "Tommy again, ugh", but thinking it better, I would also like an original live action, with Tommy being the bad guy, and the rest trying to stop him. U.S. could favorate a small mini with more original footage than used to be. Like Dino Force Brave, but with better writing.

Well, we have the Legend of the White Dragon happening with mini-series, extended series, prequel comics, and motion picture. It essentially has the same kind of feel to it as the coinless idea.

Well we will have to wait and see what actually happens with jdf project. Sure they may want to do all those things. But there could be problems for all to happen. More so issues with marketing and licensing things and what not. At the minimum we probably will get a movie or mini thing. Look at the problems that other ranger actors project has had to actually get off the ground and going.

A Coinless Universe series does have some problems. Many of the actors are now older. What stories will the series adapt? As much as I want to see a live action version of Shattered Grid, It has to be a different story than in the comics.

Drakkon now looks older in comics. He has gray hair. Probably a mini-series where he came to the ordinary timeline (the tv series) and try to screw the timelines, and a gathering of rangers have to stop it. Like Super Sentai Strongest Battle, but instead with Evil Tommy.

I like your idea, crossranger. I hope that hasbro make a live action miniseries based on your idea.

As much as I want to see a live action version of Shattered Grid, It has to be a different story than in the comics. Not to mention that only a few actors like James Napier (Connor McKnight/Dino Thunder Red Ranger) and Emma Lahana (Kira Ford/Dino Thunder Yellow Ranger) and Holly Shannon (Camille/Green Chameleon Warrior) from Jungle Fury don't ever want to return or have anything to do with franchise for anything. Nor do they ever want the have anything else to do with the fans in general. Sad, isn't it?!

It's sad, but that's either their choice or they have to do it because of other personal or business-related reasons.
As for the Coinless universe thing... I don't know for sure, but really feel that re-casting will have to be done for the series to work. Some PR actors/actresses have carreers and personal/family lives that come first and filming a Power Rangers season isn't exactly a one-week shoot. Not to mention that is a certain cast member chooses to participate, then they have to postpone everything they have planned so they could do their cameo episodes. That's why it'll be probably the best move if everyone is re-casted so we'd get better stories or bad stories done better since the series wouldn't be dependant of anyone's will/time/ability to come back. Which can mean more money being pupmed into the production which could end up in the creation of a better product overall.

I guess. But what if Hasbro decides that make an animated Coinless spin-off TV series instead a live-action version?

Well, I guess that opens a lot of possibilities for the old cast members to come back and reprise their roles and land their voices to their respective characters. But the question still remains how would the animated versions of their characters look like? Would they look exactly as their actors or something that's close? Hasbro would still need pay royalties and that includes a character's face. So once again, it's the question of "How much?".
