I just have an issue about the A-Squad Rangers from Power Rangers SPD being evil by choice. I mean, I am not saying that there is anything wrong with wanting to be on the winning side, but it's just that it really doesn't make them all that complexed as evil individuals from the beginning. I think what could have worked for this story-arc if we had gotten an origins story focused on the A-Squad and how they would later become loyal servants to Emperor Grummn in secrecy. Or...like in the Star Wars prequels, where they tried to make Anakin Skywalker's character into Darth Vader, but with a bit more creative writing and some subtle foreshadowing in the narrative captions about the A-Squad ascending towards the wrong path, which will lead them into wanting to sell out SPD for a position of power in Gruumn's empire. Aka..."the winning side". Or...have it be like a midquel where we do get to see the world of SPD being explored through the perspectives of the A-Squad, in general, and what would lead to them betraying their fellow SPD officers in their last mission.
That would have been an interesting take on exploring and expanding the universe and mythos of SPD, what do you think?

I think there's a UK comic that said they were brainwashed, though you might have a time finding it. That being said... Charlie and the A-Squad, as you said, were extremely under-developed, despite being one of the Big Battles. I would have loved to see more motivation behind their decision-making. Was there any resistance? Did Charlie intimidate them into it? Was it greed, power, fear? I guess it at least leaves fanfiction writer something to mull over.

The majority of the team was so under developed they didn't even get names. And by majority I mean everyone except Charlie.
While I definitely agree there should've been more focus on why they switched sides, I personally feel like it was definitely a power thing. Maybe they were tired of living by rules. They had this power, but they had to stay under Kruger. Maybe Gruumm gave them more freedom to do as they please. They themselves said that they wanted to be on a winning side. Maybe that's what Gruumm offered them, a guaranteed win.
Either way, it would've nice to see something in show about their motivation for switching sides.

I don't have any problem with the A-squad being evil by choice. It's the most realistic thing ín PR so far. I would like more development for the characters, but the fact that they choice to join Gruum instead of being brainwashed or "tricked" (A la Ryan Mitchell or the Ninja Storm's Thunder Rangers, well, the first time), it's interesting and add another layer to the mythology of Power Rangers. It shows that there's corruption even in PR Universe, plus doesn' t show the usually "humans=good, monsters=bad" dichotomy.
SPD made interesting choices in narrative and had cool ideas, even if they are far from perfect (or the execution of that ideas), but Í like a lot of things they've done.

The main point here is we don't really know if they were evil by choice or brainwashed. I don't think they would turn evil by choice. That would be illogical. Probably they were brainwashed. Or maybe they were exposed to some radiation that corrupted them. Also, they were totally wasted in the series. We'd need more information to draw a conclusion.

Well, if they weren't brainwashed, they have to "back to normal" after Gruum was defeated. In fact, if that scenario happened, Cruger never offered the A-Squad position and title to the B-Squad Rangers (which they rejected).

No... they were very clearly not brainwashed. Bridge saw something off about them in the beginning, hinting that they were gonna betray SPD. They literally said they wanted to be on a winning team. Wanted. As in chose. They weren't brainwashed. |

Its easy to see why people would think they were brainwashed. Since we know that the Magnificence could brainwash people. But their auras were already way off before they were captured. And the show treated it like they were real traitors.

Reading the comments I have to agree. I can get behind A squad wanting to be on the winning side but yeah they were underdeveloped. It would have been interesting seeing what motivated it, what was the breaking point?
But it also was a good surprise. You wouldn't expect this, especially a ranger team.

I have made some editing corrections on my earlier post, so that it would make more sense for everyone to understand. But, my point still stands, we should have gotten some kind of midquel or a prequel spin-off series focusing on the A-Squad Rangers as individual characters and as a group before we get to the reveal that they've been working for Gruumn the entire time, betraying SPD, what the breaking point and true motivations were and them agreeing to be on the winning side.

I had a chance to watch all 38 on SPD so I'd have to
say that it's an interesting direction for Power Rangers to
go.
Three cases come to mind -
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Green With Evil Parts 1 - 5
MMPR III
Kat
Power Rangers Dino Thunder.
Trent Fernandez
Cases 1 and 2
Tommy and Kat being controlled by a spell
Case 3
Trent being controled by a White Dino Gem
So i was wondering if somebody could have gotten ahold of the A
Squad morphers or
if A squad were rogue and went off on their own and Grumm used
them anyway.

I am just gonna wait for 2025, assuming that Beast Morpher will take two years like any Neo-Saban era seasons, ToQger for 2021-2022, Zyuohger for 2023-2024, and by 2025 we would have Kyuranger which had a crossover with Dekaranger, maybe the A-Squad can be thrown in there.

Consider Blake and Hunter as well. They allied with Lothor by choice because they wanted revenge on Sensei Watanabe, though I'm certain they would have drawn the line at all-out destruction of Blue Bay Harbor and elsewhere. Do you suppose the A-Squad may have been tricked?
It's a possibility, though I'm not sure it's a realistic one. I like to think the A-Squad were genuinely corrupt. It leaves them fully culpable for their actions and gives SPD a greater sense of justice. But I definitely agree ... we need more about the A-Squad. Perhaps I could explore it in a fanfiction.
