WHAT'S WRONG WITH HAVING AN EVIL POWER RANGER FROM THE VERY BEGINNING?! You mean like Jarrod from Jungle Fury
Jarrod doesn't count. His arc wasn't even fully-justified. Plus, Jarrod wasn't even evil, by choice. Nor was he actually evil from the beginning. He was just dealing with all of crap that has been happening to him since he was a kid. He was picked on, his parents were never really around much and plus he was told to turned the other cheek, yet he knew martial arts. So, he could have taken down the very bullies who picked on him. The way I see it. Jarrod was never really a bad person. He just had a really crappy childhood and was forced to play the role of a stereotypical mean-spirited bully by society. Now, Rio from Gekiranger. He was motivated by Long into being evil. Plus, Long was the one who killed his family and made him into the bruty power-hungry monster that he is today. So, to qoute and reference Magneto in "X-Men First Class"... Everything that Long did to Rio and what he is now, it made him into the monster that he is today. And the worst part is that Rio knew about this all the long....Long is his creator. Yeah, Long is tge true puppet-master. And Rio is literally Frankenstein's monster.
Now, probably, the best way to write in a character that was already a bad person from the beginning, was to write him/her in either a street-punk, or a gang-banger, or a pick-pocket, or a jewel thief, or a juvenile, or a Harvard student or any other student or an athlete who would stick to cheating just to win a contest. And the only way that will either redeem this character or make him/her somewhat a relatable character is by making the character into a Power Ranger and have the character call out the rangers by saying that they don't believe in the same ideals, nor are they drift compatible. They may work together after the "evil ranger" arc is done, but they can't see eye-to-eye because one has the better solutions to defeat their enemies than just "teamwork" or "friendship is magic" or "the heart of the cards and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah!"
"In other to defeat one's enemy, one must think and act like the enemy!" It's a strategic tactic of "thinking outside the box." Or in this case, "send a criminal to catch a criminal!" Or like in the movie, "Demolition Man"...."Send a maniac to catch a maniac!"
Simple as that.
