Kinda surprised we don’t have a thread about this yet, you’d think we’d be all over a series about teenagers karate fighting…
New season of Cobra Kai recently came out, they’ve announved another film for 2024, and there are rumours now about a crossover toyline with PR, so, yeah. Wax On!

I’ll get things started with a basic review.
The Karate Kid - Classic feel good sports tournament film that left a huge impact on popular culture. 10/10
The Karate Kid Part II - An entertaining follow up that introduced some of my favourite characters in the franchise. 8/10.
The Karate Kid Part III - A terribly limp continuation that drastically lowered the stakes from the previous film and made Daniel seem much wimpier. 6/10
The Next Karate Kid - Unlike most people I actually enjoy this one. Some bizarre plot beats but Hilary Swank was great. 7/10.
The Karate Kid (remake) - There’s technically nothing wrong with this movie but it’s so boring because it follows the OGs plot beats EXACTLY. 6/10.
Cobra Kai S1 - I was honestly shocked at how well this show revived a 30+ year old franchise with new characters, well balanced nostalgia and a ln engaging plot. 9/10.
Cobra Kai S2 - Also great. The finale is still probably the most intense episode of the show. 8/10.
Cobra Kai S3 - This is when the show started to kind of shift into “saturday morning cartoon” fare but I actually think that madd it more fun. 9/10.
Cobra Kai S4 - The weakest season to me. A lot of backsliding character development that felt like it was just trying to prolong the drama at any cost. 7/10.
Cobra Kai S5 - A slow start, but the latter half of the season really hammered home both the action and the emotion. I actually cried at one point. 9/10.

Yeah Cobra Kai is surprisingly great. It gets ridiculous yeah but that's the charm of it. Do have to wonder if Season 6 is going to be the final one. Because outside of Kreese being on the loose it doesn't feel like we can continue on with the drama between the kids now that Cobra Kai has been tarnished again, & I can't really say I'm holding out hope for Hillary Swank & Michael Ironside to pop up.
