It’s been ten years since the second team of B-Squad SPD Rangers defeated Ridenio. Ten years since peace ruled New Tech City. Four and a half years since B-Squad’s Yellow Ranger, Kida Frost, returned from a different dimension with Dinosaur Ranger powers. In that time, SPD started developing new technology to keep the city safe, the SPD powers not able to stand up to threats that would have otherwise been easy to stop.
Dr. Manx developed the “Variable Singularity System” or “VS System” for short. These new powers would reduce a new Squad of Rangers from five down to three but make up for the lack of teammates by increasing the Rangers speed, strength, and overall power. Unfortunately, one night three of the VS System Blasters and three Jetrunner Morphers are stolen from SPD, the thieves covering their tracks by being invisible to the Delta Base’s cameras.
Now, with three new “Rangers” causing destruction in the city, Commander Tate authorizes the use of Echo Squad, a team of three Rangers using the VS System and the Sirenstriker Morphers to face down their misguided counterparts…before something worse arrives to rip the city apart. Echo Squad:

Four years ago:"Kia, I promise, I'll be right back," Kida said, kissing her daughter's head and smiling softly. "Go with Kaa-ni and your sisters, and I'll be right there." When her daughter nodded and walked away, Kida turned to head out of the house. She walked outside, a portal opening up under her and whisking her away to a different dimension where she would be thrown together with six other people from the Multiverse to combat a new threat. A week later, Kida reappeared outside of SPD, a Morpher strapped to her wrist, a small Key-like device in her hand, and she was full of stories to tell. ______________ Present Day:New Tech City. A town once beset by Emperor Grumm and then Ridenio and his minions from Dark Space. In the decade since Ridenio's fall, the city had known a long running peace. Minor crimes still happened, giving SPD's B-Squad Rangers something to do, but there were no world ending threats. Today saw a group of Cadets being trained by SPD's Yellow Ranger, Kida Frost-Yamagura, the four doing shooting drills against a holographic Orange Head Krybot. "Kiara, keep yourself level," the Yellow Ranger said, adjusting her daughter's arm. "You're firing and losing momentum from the recoil, and you're bringing your arms back too fast." She walked down the line, watching the others. "Knute, you're off by a couple of centimeters. Recenter and breathe. Don't tense when you fire or that'll make the shot go wide and you'll hit the wall or accidentally injure someone." She watched the four, hearing the blaster shots ring out. "Nero, Becca, you're both doing fine. Becca, you need to lower your shot. You're just a little too high." Kiara rolled her eyes as she adjusted, firing at the Krybot again. THere were days she hated being the daughter of an SPD Ranger, and today was one of them. But she knew that there was a reason to be in training since the rumors were going around about a new Ranger team being formed, and she wanted in at all costs. ________________ Across town in a rather well furbished warehouse, another trio were in the process of relaxing, awaiting orders from their mysterious "benefactor", the Broker. Nobody had seen his face, and he wanted to keep it that way. Bringing together three remarkable people that had been slighted in Darius, George-Mark, and Kestra, he had plans for the three young people, and he was sure to use them for his own needs soon. Kestra stretched as she laid on her stomach, stretched out on a couch, a comic book in hand. She flipped the page and blinked, reading the story going on. "Man, you're better then that," she muttered. "Stupid ass bimbo." Kestra, being the only woman in the "team", was something of an oddity compared to her companions in GQ and Showstopper. A former SPD Cadet, one that was discharged after accidentally hurting her friend in a training exercise, she had turned to living on the streets and stealing what she needed to survive before the Broker found her, bringing her on. "Man! It can't end on a cliffhanger! That's bullshit!" |

Knute refused to show his frustration as he tried to compose himself in order to focus on the exercise. For a farmer boy who happened to be mellow, he rather not lose control of himself or else it would turn ugly. After all, he carved his own path by being here in the first place. Not to mention keeping up with Kiara, Becca, and Nero in regards to rankings. "Yes ma'am." Knute answered to Kida, positioning himself so he could focus on the Orange Krybot before he began blasting it in a more proficient manner.

Inside the warehouse, George-Mark or GQ in simple terms, was reading the book "Inventing a Pyramid" in his seat across from Kestra. When it came to books, it worked better for him. Focusing on the words on the page stopped his mind from getting distracted in the way he did on other activities. And yet mind went elsewhere anyway. Who would've thought it became a coincidence the Broker saved him not once but twice after the incident involving his co-worker, or former as he would remind himself everytime, from giving a warning to now offering him to be part of something after being on the run for so long.
As GQ flipped another page, he heard Kestra's reaction to the comic book she's reading, which made him rolled his eyes. While he normally preferred solitude, he didn't mimd company since he's used to being around people growing up and with his skills, it helped him blend easier around them without getting caught. "Oy vey." He muttered, chosing to continue reading instead of going under his introspection again.

Unlike GQ and Kestra who were quieter and kept to themselves, Darius was the exact opposite, earning the name Showstopper thanks to awe inspiring heists and his performances in the streets carried over into his day to day personality, normally being active and engaging even when it sometimes rubbed others the wrong way. Luckily for him, he was usually able to charm his way out of most situations, hence the lack of a black eye or broken limbs.
"Hey there, you two!" Darius slid down the railing before popping to his feet. He spoke to his two supposed comrades as he was raised with some semblance of manners before sitting down next to Kestra, turning all of his attention on the only pretty face in the room besides his own.
"So, what ya reading? Anything good?" Darius flashed a smile, aiming to make small talk.

Kestra stuck her tongue out at GQ, not missing his eyeroll. She looked at Darius and grinned. "Power Ranger comic. Red Ranger's about to get into a fight with her own brother in 1947 New Mexico, and they left it on a cliffhanger. She's from Mars, her brother's a mass murderer, and her commanding officer won't let her dispense proper justice to put her bro down for being a dick. And the last panel was them rushing each other and it said "To Be Continued..." and the next issue isn't for two months."

GQ didn't see Kestra sticking her tongue out since his eyes were buried to his book. But he did hear Darius greeting him so he had to at least respond in a semi-politeful way.
"Hello Sparkles." GQ greeted to Darius without looking up.

Ignoring the Sparkles line, Darius was listening to what Kestra was saying with moderate interest in the comic.
"That sucks. I guess you'll have to find something else to do for the next two months until that new issue comes out." Darius smirked. While his approach with the ladies wasn't piggish, he definitely relished being a ladies man and would find any opportunity to flirt with a woman and attempt to charm them.

Nero heard the praise from Kida and smiled and made sure to thank her. "Thank you, Mrs. Kida. Thank you as well for being a good instructor." Nero said still concentrating on the task at hand with the hologram. Although Nero was more of a negotiator rather than a violent person, he wanted to make sure that he did as much as he could by the book. It wasn't because he wanted to be arrogant or egotistical, he just wanted to do right by the people who trusted him to take care of innocent civilians and aliens alike. He wanted to make his home world and family proud being one of the first from his home planet of Aquis to be enlisted in the SPD Program.

"Unless you find the leaks beforehand. Works well when you read weekly or monthly chapters from a manga until the volume releases. Then again, it's not really the same." GQ mentioned with nonchalant tone as he flipped another page of the book he's reading. Since he knew a thing or two about comics, which was mostly Japanese-related, it's no surprise he understood the gist of it. "Anywho, I'm glad you're enjoying that comic of yours, Buttercup. You're going to need that excitement when the Broker gives us the good news."

"Got it." Becca called, doing as instructed and aiming just a little lower. Her body felt like they had been doing this all day, her back was still giving her some issues though. The meds she was given helped, but the physicality of it all still took it's toll. Firing again, she landed a shot and smiled to herself. It didn't feel like she had missed much training, but it was like riding a back when she got back either. She's had to work really hard to keep up with her classmates and she wasn't going to stop because of a little pain here and there.

Kida smiled softly, watching the four recruits. After a few minutes, she reached down and hit the control on her gauntlet, shutting down the hologram and bringing the lights up. "GOod work, everyone," she said. "You're all really improving. Becca, you've bounced back beautifully and you're almost back to where you were before. Nero, you've improved your marksmanship quite significantly, and I'm truly impressed. I know htat you're one to do this diplomatically if possible, but it's good to have this to fall back of things go south, which....they really have a tendency to do in SPD. Knute, you continue to impress me with how quickly you've caught up to everyone. I'm excited to see where you go in the future."
Kiara looked at her mother, and she smiled. She holstered her gun, bouncing on the balls of her feet. "What now, Mom?" she asked.
"Now? Everyone check their weapons back in and get cleaned up. We've got to meet with Commander Tate in forty minutes," Kida said. "Dismissed." She turned and walked out, leaving the four by themselves.
Kiara looked down, blinking softly. "Wow....ok...." she said, shaking her head softly. "Thanks, Mom..."

"Something to do for two months? You offering yourself as a sacrifice, Darius?" Kestra asked with a smirk. "Or are you afraid you can't handle all of me?" She looked at GQ and shrugged. "I gotta do something to pass the time. Broker's dragging his feet giving us jobs. And I've finished my backlog of issues. So next it's either picking up a controller or diving back into the DVD pile."
"Actually, Ms. Fenix, you'll need not do any of that." The large monitor in the corner lit up, a man draped in shadow with glowing red eyes appearing on the screen. "I have your assignment, my Guild."

Knute saluted to Kida before she left. He took a glance at Kiara, Nero, and Becca and asked, "So do we know what news Commander Tate's gonna tell us?"

Becca holstered her weapon and gave the salute to Kida as she left. Looking to Kiara, she gave her a nudge with her shoulder. "You're doing awesome. She probably wanted the two of you to have a better conversation in private." She said smiling softly her teammate. She then looked to Nero and shrugged. "Honestly, it could be anything." She said hoping it wasn't going to be a dismissal or anything.

Nero holstered his weapon, saluted Kida, before unholstered his weapon to perform his weapon check as he overheard the conversation. "I ponder this too. It's not often an officer let alone the 4 of us at this rank are requested by Commander Tate. Good things, I do hope." Nero stated as he seen the disappointed look on Kiara's face. "I agree with Becca. You are improving. That is something to be proud of. Not only that, but and I sincerely mean this in a non-weight bearing way, but you do have big shoes to fill." Nero stated before he holstered his weapon after a successful weapons check. "Don't forget to check your weapons, guys. We don't need a weapon to go off." Nero added.

"Sweet Kes, you wouldn't know what to do with yourself if you had access to my temple for two whole months." Darius grinned as he was referring to his body.
Eventually, the Broker appeared in the form of a shadow with red eyes, putting an end to all of the flirtatious and general conversation.

"Who knows what we're going to be told," Kiara said. "It is strange for cadets to be summoned, especially Cadets that aren't Ranger initiated." She looked at Nero and shrugged softly. "I've been doing this for like....ten years. She's always let me help with training, and I even went in with her and Kaa-ni a few times and sparred with my aunt Rina growing up. I don't know why she'd wait. Unless she's gonna start yelling at me again..." Shrugging, the young woman sighed. "Doesn't matter. Let's all go and clean up before meeting up at Command. See you guys in a bit." "Such eager members I have," he said. "The "show", Mr. Keller, is one of utmost importance." A set of images appeared on the screen. "Ms. Fenix. I assume you know what these are?"Kestra blinked, standing up and walking forward. "That's Dr. Manx's Variable Singularity System and the Jetrunners. Prototypes for new SPD Rangers. The five of us in Echo Squad were testing for them...and that's when Becca got hurt and I was discharged and kicked out." She looked at the Broker on the side of the screen, her eyes widening. "Broke, you can't honestly--" "I do. You three are going to break into SPD tonight and take the Jetrunners and VS System. Mr. Keller, Mr. Dahlqvist, I'm sending demolition equipment your way. Set these charges at the main gates of SPD on your way in, activate them as you leave. Ms. Fenix, you will be in charge of securing the System and the Runners. Kill whoever gets in your way," the Broker said. Kestra looked down, her hands clenching. "I'm not comfortable with this...I'll steal from SPD, but I'm not comfortable killing them." "YOU WILL DO AS INSTRUCTED, YOU INSIGNIFICANT CHILD!" |
