I am currently rewatching Animal Sentai Zyuohger, and I have just finished watching the "Zyuoh The World" arc. But I wasn't impressed with the way it was being handled as an evil ranger arc, overall. However, it did got me thinking about a podcast topic on evil power rangers in general, and how their story arcs were being handled and written in Power Rangers by Ricky Layman. Also known as "Ric the Barkeep" from the Onyx Tavern. I think what turned me off about the "Zyuoh The World" arc in Zyuohger is that it felt like a poin-for-point rehashing of the Green with Evil mini-series. Then again, several other Evil Ranger arcs have tried to rehash the plot of the Green with Evil mini-series, save for Ninja Storm's Thunder Rangers arc, "White Thunder" from Dino Thunder and the Duke Org Zen-Aku arc from Wild Force. But I could be wrong.
What do you all think about evil rangers in general, and the formula of how they should be written in Power Rangers?
Here is the podcast video:

I dont mind it. But its kind of hit or miss.... I liked Green Ranger series. Hated Pink Ranger (Kat) Enjoyed the time force (Eric) Thunder Rangers were cool also. Are we counting Psycho Rangers?? Other than that I dont see any other ones that stood out...

Kat wasn't an evil ranger in the strictest sense of the term, anymore than say Astronema. She became a Ranger after she turned good.
Eric/Quantum Ranger wasn't evil. Just selfish and self-serving.
The Psycho Rangers were evil rangers, so yes they count.

Are we counting Psycho Rangers?? Well, the Psycho Rangers were just five random monsters being granted the abilities to become a group of evil Power Rangers, thanks to Astronema and Dark Specter. But in terms of writing in human characters as evil Power Rangers, it's best to just let the Psycho Rangers speak for themselves as their own set of evil characters. Now, out of all the story-arcs and subplots that involved human characters being evil Power Rangers, I woukd say that the A-Squad Rangers and the Dark Rangers are the weaker ones in terms of story-telling for several reasons. The Dark Rangers were reduced to being a missed opportunity because of the fact that Saban at that time didn't bother to spend the extra amount of money to just bring in the Dairanger suits and give it to the actors that were chosen to be Lord Zedd's Dark Rangers. *sigh!* You cheap bastard. The A-Squad should've been given a better motivation as to why they would so easily sell out SPD and Doggie Cruger, other than "wanting to be on the winning side!" Like really, which winning are they are referring to? Grumm or Broodwing? Broodwing had the better resources and he could easily offer the A-Squad some money or more power if they had joined him. But Grumm?! He's just a puppet working for Omni. Koragg, well...I think it would've been better if they didn't make him to be Nick's father and Udonna's husband, because of sentai footage and plot. But rather, make him be the long-lost son, Bowen, instead. But I would say the Zen-Aku arc and the three-part episode, "White Thunder" were some pretty decent contenders to the Green with Evil mini-series, despite the fact Rita Repulsa's plans to make Tommy the evil green ranger has a huge ton of flaws and I mean it. It does have flaws. But Ryan as the evil Titanium Ranger?! Yeah, that is just kind of lame, in my opinion. Same for the evil Zyuoh The World arc in Zyuohger.... Booooring!!!Now Doomwing being Zenowing's negative half and being the evil silver ranger, thanks to the dark energem's powers...I was not expecting that. Hell, I would say it literally broke away from the traditional formula of how to write in an evil Power Ranger, since it didn't need to rely on the rangers using the power of "friendship is magic" and the heart of the cards to rescue Zenowing and "mind control". Instead, Archnanon used the dark energem's powers to make an evil clone of Zenowing and have him be the silver ranger, while the real Zenowing is left in the back seat. And the rangers had to use science to separate Zenowing from Doomwing.

Has potential to be awesome. MMPR more often then not butchered the evil rangers concept. Trent dominated the rangers more thoroughly than Tommy but it kinda wasn't really him and I found it less appealing than Tommy. Space and SPD was awesome but they weren't people. If they can do it like The Dino thunder/Ninja Storm ranger clash, it would be awesome!

Actually, redgoldranger1. The A-Squad consisted of four humans and an alien. But there is a bit of a problem with the revalation of them being evil-by-choice. They weren't even fully-flushed out as charactets being evil-by-choice since we've been following the B-Squad in the entire season of SPD. But I would've preferred if the A-Squad had sold out Doggie Cruger and SPD for either money, a position of power, or at least new world order or something. But being on the "winning side"?! Yeah, that is not good enough. I mean, just say that Gruumm paid them money because they were already dirty cops from the beginning, and that's it.

The A-Squad consisted of four humans and an alien. Which one is the alien? That would be the blue ranger of the A-Squad.

That would be the blue ranger of the A-Squad. Is it mentioned somewhere or is the design just that distinct? I didn't watch S.P.D. so I didn't know.

It was directly shown in the final episodes of SPD that the A-Squad blue ranger is an alien. dude. Seriously, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Just look at the Power Rangers SPD youtube clip, "A-Squad vs. B-Squad" and you will get why people would have wanted to see more of the A-Squad in action.
