I’m gonna be honest, I just think Tzachor doesn’t want to do Power Rangers lol. Ciarra Hanna said Perfect Storm was his baby. And while it’s easily one of the best directed episodes in a loong time it barely has anything to do with Power Rangers. He wanted Samurai to be 100 percent translation of Shinkenger but Haim Saban stepped in and hired James Bates to make it 95 Shinkenger as dubbed by 4Kids and 5 percent MMPR redux. Tzachor also seemed to prefer the more military aspects over the teenagers living with double lives. He vetoed anything “high school-y” like protest, social media, a fame hungry Ranger. The seasons he had more control over (In Space-Wild Force, Samurai, and Megaforce) tended to focus more on them being Rangers first. I don’t think he cared much for the high school shennigans like Haim Saban, Doug Sloan, Tony Oliver, and James Bates You raised interesting questions. And answers. Most sentai (well, every sentai) don't worry about the aspect of "duality" or "double lives" in the Rangers. They are....Rangers. They can have a daily job, but most of the time, they don't worry to morph in front of other people. It's like, the duty is first (a very Japanese way of thinking) and his needs came later. That's why probably, like Tzachor (and I don't agree with a lot of his management of the series), I like more the hero's aspect, and less the shenanigans about high school. I mean, daily life, and how is affected by the hero's duty, could work (Spiderman is a big example of that), but Power Rangers.....sometimes they clash so bad. The Ninja Steel RedBot has a blog episode. So, unnecessary. I mean, why? And I watch things with Steel in Beast Morphers and say "Yep. Good stuff.". My point is, the daily life of high schoolers was OK in MMPR, but late it became boring. (In Space they have the Rangers barely in high school. Only a couple of times). For other part, yes, when they tried to recreate MMPR again, in later series, is when it became a problem. There is somethings in Samurai, the producers could explore more, but the constant clash of "point by point" translation vs "teenagers with attitude" approach, it's was sink the series. Look Emily. She seems like naive, then like she have low self-steem, but then she has confidence (I'm talking about Stick and Stones, where the monster transform the verbal attacks into physical attacks). This have sense more if you watch Shinkenger. Kotoha had a low self-steem problem, and that helped in being inmune to the monster's attacks. Emily had self-steem but then not, and.....whatever. It could very interesting if they let Tzachor translate everything point to point. It could be a mess. But Time Force was, the closest adaptation to the Sentai, with minor adjustments (Katie was a dude in the Sentai, sure), and it was a fan-favorite.

]My point is, the daily life of high schoolers was OK in MMPR, but late it became boring. (In Space they have the Rangers barely in high school. Only a couple of times). In Space is interesting because despite it being based on a Sentai set in high school and the Rangers still being high school (albeit I think it was implied they graduated early on or most of the season takes place in the summer?) it barely focuses on them in high school and it was the first season where the team were Rangers first, teenagers with attitude second. It’s even the first series to give them out of Ranger uniforms! And while In Space was in lot of ways Judd Lynn’s baby (The Astronema/Andros storyline was most definitely his since it wasn’t included in the early write up when he wasn’t story editor yet) In Space was the first step to making Power Rangers more like Sentai with about 12 episodes were pretty close adaptations of Megaranger episodes (before that maybe one or two episodes a season would closely follow a Sentai plot outside of what’s forced on by the footage) Samurai was sunk by Haim Saban’s desires and wants (more like Mighty Morphin, more dumb slapstick comedy, moral messages) clashed with Jonathan Tzachor (who wanted American Shinkenger) People paint Tzachor as the grand evil villain of Samurai and Megaforce (and he’s for sure with his faults) but Haim Saban is a big problem with the show as well. Considering the edgier approach Power Rangers took from In Space-Wild Force and Haim Saban stepping more and more back (in fact I think pre-Samurai MMPR season 1 was the only season he had much involvement with) I don’t think Tzachor wanted the show to aim at the youngest possible audience. Look no further than Ninja Steel, done by Chip Lynn and was terrible with juvenile humor and Chip Lynn all but confirmed Haim Saban getting involved was a big reason for the change from Dino Charge to Ninja Steel. Had Samurai been done in the tone of earlier Tzachor seasons it would have better received. Didn’t Emily also have immunity because she didn’t like herself? Time Force was the third closest to Sentai and the elements directly lifted from Time Ranger are the elements fans liked best! Samurai would have been adored if it wasn’t forced into being Mighty Morphin season 1 2.0

^ Emily was immune because she didn't care about the words other people said, like her sister teached her. "Stick and stones", like the saying. Which also contradicts, in some way as Mike said, the fact she keeps thinking in such a low way about herself. Kotoha in SHINKENGER was unnafected because she believes EVERYTHING the monster said. "You are stupid", said the monster, and Kotoha said "Yep, I think about myself in that way". IT'S A BIG DIFFERENCE. I guess they want to give Emily insecurities, but not self-loathing, which doesn't work completely. I think Mia was more rounded and rarely contradicts herself. I think the point of contemption is about "Oh yeah, she wants to get married some day, and having children". Which some people thought it was sexist? I dunno. It was more interesting if it's her choice. She is not obligated to get married, she only wants to do it some day. But meh. I would say, the Psycho Ranger saga stall the "Let's rescue Zordon plot", but ate least it ws never boring. There was too much action to think "Oh, wait, where is Zordon? WHy these Psycho Rangers are draining the energy of Dark Specter while they are fighting? I don't care, it was so much fun.

Venusaur Tzachor's tenure with Saban Brands is marred by more than just his obsession with Sentai clashing with Haim's desire to lean heavily on MMPR nostalgia and kids friendly humor and whatnot, though. He tried to lord his Showrunner status over other writers, actively ignore any series that he wasn't personally involved in when it came to doing Megaforce, and pretend that every season of the franchise - even the early seasons where the same characters stuck around - represented a completely different universe. When I referred to him as an obsessed fool earlier, I wasn't just referring to him wanting his Saban Brands seasons to be dubbed Sentai.

samurai was just plain bad. Spike and bulk rarely interacted with any one else or the rangers. Then the actors didnt have much with there characters and the whole copy paste translate the sentai clearly did not work for us.

I don't care about Sentai, so Samurai being "Americanized Shinkenger" doesn't have any impact on me or my opinion of the season.

1. ya every one has there opinions on what they like and dont like. For me i really didnt enjoy it or megaforce. Those 2 rank real low on ranking all the shows list.
2. bulk and spike easily could have been more important if they tied to the episode plots or the rangers more. Like bulk could have worked for the rangers or something of that line.
3. my problem there was the oh lets just copy/paste the sentai story and what not of the characters. When the us characters where totally different then their counterparts. So they should have put more effort in making things make more sense story wise for us audience. Then what they did, then the lack of emotion and bad acting from most of the cast. Sure there is past pr seasons that where close to there sentai. But they still put there stamp on things and made the logical different changes needed. Jt just didnt seem to care in my opinion on that aspect.

As I noted, several Samurai characters make my list of favorite Power Rangers and villains, so your assessment of the way it handled said characters is not a "universal truth".

When I referred to him as an obsessed fool earlier, I wasn't just referring to him wanting his Saban Brands seasons to be dubbed Sentai. When they needed to replace Gosei Red in an All Red Ranger change they used Overdrive Red instead of MMPR or Alien or Zeo or Turbo or Space or Lost Galaxy or Lightspeed or Time Force. In the episode where the Rangers get a Mystic Force Zord the monster of the day is voiced by the same actor who played the Yellow Mystic Rangers Next to Samurai the vast majority of Legend Morphs were Disney teams (and fans can whine on about that’s because Gokaiger but I call BS they had 50 episodes to play with to get 20) Jungle Fury received, arguably, the best tribute episode. (Albeit it helped Jason Smith was the new story editor replacing James Bates) And yeah there were screw ups (like apparently the writers staff thought Corinth was the name of the RPM Rangers homeworld and not the last city on their earth) but there were also screw ups on the seasons Tzachor was involved with (mispronouncing Animaria for example) but saying Tzachor went out of his way to ignore the seasons he wasn’t involved with doesn’t check out with the product that was presented.

Venusaur I said that Tzachor tried to ignore any seasons he wasn't involved with, and was thankfully overruled by his bosses. Clashing with them over that significant an issue didn't do his public or private reputation any favors, though.

The most we ever got was that he’s a big Sentai fan (confirmed by James Bates) and he’s more visually focused than character focused.

^ It wasn't ever 100% directly confirmed, but there were Tweets and comments from other people who were in close contact with him that painted a picture of him declaring every season other than the ones he worked on as being non-Canon and trying to have them removed from the official Power Rangers website by using his authority as an EP and showrunner.

Digi that is why I said we all have opinion on what we like and don't like. Was there things in samurai or mega force I like sure. But it was few and far between. Vs some if the better series out there. So I have no issue if you like or don't like this thing or that thing. Just like I like this or or don't like that.

There were always rumors of Tzachor "hating" season who weren't made by himself, I.E: Disney seasons. Those rumors plagued RangerBoard and Rangerrew since before the release of Samurai like, wow, 9 years ago? Chris Funaro, Cmdr Crayfish, in those times, talked about that. (He was friend of Amit Bhaumik, old fan of Power Rangers, story editor for Wild Force, and writer of Forever Red. He also talked about that)
