"FINE!! I will do it myself!!!"

So anyways, since nobody is brave enough to even talk about this show's existence. I shall be the first to do so.
Denji Sentai Megaranger, the source material of Power Rangers in Space.
It's okay, but as someone who did grew up in the 90's as a kid. If, I was being given an opportunity to watch this show as an eleven year-old in 1998. I would probably find the show to be boring, even if it was dubbed in English. But, anyways. Dr. Hinelar is a pretty good villain, but I think he should have been used as a main antagonist in a much better show. Whether it's a metal hero series or a Kamen Rider series. But, since he's a sentai villain from the 90's, I guess I will have to accept it. Yugande and Shiborena are also the best characters that this show has to offer. I mean, sure they are not as good as their respective Power Rangers counterparts, Astronema and Ecliptor. However, I can say that they are a lot more memorable than almost any of the villain characters from Gingaman and to a degree, the Death Galien from Zyuohger. Girell....yeah, dude. You are NOOOOOO Darkonda. Generically evil. But, just not as memorable as your Power Rangers counterpart. The Nejirangers.....WOW!!!! what a disappoint, yet wasteful batch of a great villain concept and character design. I mean, these guys are supposed to be the original counterparts of the iconic Psycho Rangers and yet they're just as generically evil as sentai villains as Girell is. Seriously, Toei?! C'mon!!! Zyuranger did this idea so much better. And that was only one episode. Even Gaoranger made better use of the shadow Gaorangers. But, I guess it shows that not even the casting choice of an iconic voice actress like Masko Katsuki aka Tsunade from Naruto and Michiru Kaioh/Sailor Neptune from Sailor Moon as Neji Yellow (Both her Nejiranger form and her human disguise) was strong enough to save a decent villain concept from being wasted in its' execution. And trust me, I have seen far worst wasted opportunities of villain concepts before. And lastly, Emperor Jabius I...yeah, he's just here for the sole purpose of dying and to serve as another boring, forgettable until Dr. Hinelar became the true main villain of the show. At least his counterpart, Dark Specter had a much bigger role to play. Even Pharaoh 90 from Sailor Moon Crystal Season III had more screen-time than Jabius I. Same could be said about Scorpius from Lost Galaxy. but at least he look more visually creative than Javius I. But, that's all I can say about the villains. The Nejire Beasts were also very well creative and well designed. The Kunekune....not bad, but I think they could've done more with these guys.
So, our main heroes....Prof. Kobuta. EASILY ONE OF THE BEST MENTOR-CHARACTERS OF THE 90'S!!! A much better mentor-character than Grandpa Igasaki from Ninninger and a billion times better than any of the mentor-characters from the Neo-Saban era of Power Rangers, except for Mick Kanic from Ninja Steel. He's awesome. Yuusaku/Mega Silver...okay, but not nearly as good as a sixth ranger than Dragonranger/Burai or Naoto Takizawa/Time Fire, in my opinion. Miku/Mega Pink....not really my favorite, but I can say she's a much better sentai pink than Kagura/Toq #5. At least Miku meant well, Kagura is just annoying as hell and she's supposed to be a kindergartner pretending to be an adult?! My least favorite Miku-focused episode was the "Diet Crepe" episode. Seriously?! "Diet Crepes"?! That's just stupid. Chisato/Mega Yellow....God, I love this woman. But, she's pretty much an average sentai yellow compared to Luka/Gokai Yellow, Jasmine/Deka Yellow and of course Natsumi/Yellow Racer and Ranru/Abare Yellow. Still, I can say that she had some really good moments, especially episode 37 where she had her voice swapped with the Canary Nejirejia. Shun/Mega Blue...he's kind of an asshole, but he's not as annoying as Triceraranger/Dan was in Zyuranger. I loved the episode where he fell in love with the android girl created by the Neo-Bat Nejire. But, I was not a fan of episode 41 where he figured out how to defeat Neji Blue. Koichirou/Mega Black. A bit too stoic and too serious as the team leader. But, he did managed to loosen up. So, he's okay. And finally....Date Kenta/Mega Red. He's got potential, but I think he needs more character-focused episodes to be fully-developed and to give his appearance in the Gokagier-tribute episode a lot more importance.
Now, the only other gripe I have with the show is the final three episodes with the bystanders suddenly acting like total assholes to our main heroes just because they have to finish their stupid little war with the Nejireijia. No seriously, the vice-principal and the principal are all idiots. As is the one background character in episode 51 saying "This is all your fault! AWWW A monster, help me!!!" Who acts like that in real-life?! This is not how a normal person should act. And if you really wanted to separate the Megarangers from the school in the final episodes. Don't just kick them out without talking to the parents and ask them for an opinion. Just have them be temporarily suspended from school and send out a few students and/or faculty members to volunteer as private tutors to have the Megarangers be prepared for a private graduation ceremony. Or just postpone the graduation ceremony until the villains are defeated. That's it. That's all they have to do. Seriously, there are better ways they could have ended the show. But. I digress. It is what it is.
Overall, Denji Sentai Megaranger isn't really my favorite sentai series from the 90's. But, it's got some memorable episodes and far more interesting villains to watch than what we've been getting from some of the most recent sentai shows lately. So, that's all I can. If you feel curious about wanting to check out the original source material of Power Rangers in Space, then go on ahead. Feel free to enjoy it for what it is.
So, now. I am about to go check out Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGo-V and finish my rewatch of Gosei Sentai Dairanger just to appreciate some of the good things of the 90's sentai a little bit more.
