Pretty good two-hander, an expensive bottle episode with thought-provoking ideas, these sorts of things are the Bed and Breakfast for the best science-fiction.
Atmospheric, tense etc, the only points I'll deduct is Doctor and Donna stayed fairly nice to each other despite all the trust issues with the doubles...if I were Donna I'd have been furious with Tennant for choosing the wrong one towards the end, there was a brief argument they had at the start that I thought would escalate over the course of the special with the doubles adding to the problem, but that's Midnight fandom for you.
Effects on the doubles were too naff to convey proper menace, but Tennant and Tate's performances gave them the edge they needed.
Resolution was pretty clever. I presume the captain was a Garn from Terminus, hard to make out since it was a skeleton.
"You can't rewrite history...not one line" aged well didn't it Bill? "Mavity". Proper Red Dwarf moment that.
Next Time: 14's journey comes to an end (or does it?) and Ncuti debuts

Ya this was a nice episode creepy with the evil clones and all the emotional stuff. And totally loved the end with the doc getting to see Donna dad again.

What a high-stakes episode, albeit a bit rushed, and Toymaker didn't really grow or evolve from how we last saw him, a bit generic, but endlessly entertaining and his plan was terrifyingly simple yet highly effective, and I loved his rampage through UNIT's base to the music of the Spice Girls.
The Master showed up as the Toymaker's gold tooth, the price paid for losing one of his games. After the Toymaker is defeated, his tooth is picked up by an unknown woman. Guess this is how we get John Simm back.
Ncuti is already a pretty infectious Doctor, with wisdom and compassion, but most importantly great command and vitality, he will be a smash hit for sure. Great to see Tennant's Doctor happy and content with his life at last as he gets to live it with Donna. Too bad she's married, because I really wanted them to kiss in the TARDIS, but The Doctor has a family again

A good final special with David. Neil was a crazy and creepy toymaker. I loved the Scooby Doo doors part. And totally lol with the fight at unit with spice girls. Did not expect that. And holy crap the doctor bi generated interesting twist there. To have the new doctor go off and have adventures and save the universe and doctor 14 getting to have a life on earth with humanity after all his battles. Wonder what will happen to 14 now and in the future with him also having a TARDIS and all. And wonder who took the master trapped in the tooth and if he be showing up in new doctor first or second seasons. Can't wait to see Xmas special to see the new doctor in action more and his first companion. Also it was fun seeing mel and her with unit.

I liked "The Church on Ruby Road", Ncuti has a great command of the role, Millie sold the urgency of a kidnapped foundling, Anita's character has a good flavour of mystery about her (is she who picked up the Master's tooth?), I liked that it played into manipulating and challenging the themes of luck and coincidence, only real drawback was the Goblins barely appeared beyond their budget-blowing musical number and they were easily defeated by atomic mittens. There was Davina cringe as well.
Kudos to RTD for making Ruby's foster mother so unlikeable without Ruby as a light in her life, it was raw and real, evocative of so many people like that, unapologetically flawed. People can connect no matter what.

I just finished the special myself. A solid Xmas special. Ruby was a fun and energetic new companion. Can't wait to see more of herm the new doctor is high energy fun and commanding. Ruby adopted family seem nice. And the goblins where a fun little threat. Curious to see if we will learn who is Ruby real family. And curious about the old lady knowing what TARDIS is and if she a factor to the new season.
