At the time it was airing, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was one of the best kids shows on TV. So it made little to no sense to change the suits when season 2 came around. Those suits with the white diamonds on them and the dino mouths for the visors were iconic!
BUT looking back at it now, would you have changed them and If so how and when would you have introduced them? Especially sense they appeared in Super Megaforce, I've become obsessed with this idea, so yes I would have and here is what I would have done:
With Zyu2 still in progress when Zedd takes over, I wouldn't have destroyed the original zords just yet. This would have enabled to use these unused Zord fights in early season 2. Still having Zedd take focus on taking out the green ranger's weakening powers culminating with Green No More 2-parter. I'm sort of combing 2 existing stories for this. Zedd is able to create five corresponding candles connected to all five rangers and have them fail and have the zords destroyed in battle keeping them from getting to the candles in time. But Zordon reveals that he "Planned" for such events and revealed the new powers/suits and zords to the team. With the white ranger introduced later with no higher rank than the green ranger the season before.
Still using the term Thunder for the season.
Also, just to speed things up, the story of this episode would be to have Jason, Zack and Trini chosen for the Peace Conference. Thus giving Tommy the role of the Red Thunder Ranger, Adam as the Green Thunder Ranger, Aisha as Yellow, Billy and Kim same colors and make Rocky the white ranger later on.
Any thoughts?

I would like the idea if they actually did fully adapted Dairanger into season two of MMPR, with the five core Dairanger suits for the mighty morphin team as part of the plan to change the rangers' new powers. But, because Saban Entertainment were so much of a bunch of cowards to even bother taking the risks back in the 1990's, why bother doing it now?! And not even those Dairanger suits appearing in Super Megaforce made that much of a difference, either. All it was doing was making everyone be self-aware that Super Sentai does in fact exist and that we've skipped over fifteen pre-Zyuranger sentai teams in favor of those damn Zyuranger suits, because Jurassic Park was a thing back in 1993, and nothing else afterwards, until Kakuranger and Ohranger came along and the rest is history.
So, no offense. But, it's too late for that. Over 20 years too late!!!

Ya I would keep it simple we just have the powers destroyed like we seen happen many times over. And like with white ranger and Tommy just be a new power zordon creates when the mm powers got wiped out. And we do the Dai suits fully and we still do the ranger change if needed.

I wouldve changed the suits for season 3. At this point it made no sense to keep the suits. The Shogun Zords had 0 to do with suit design... At this point it was just all over the place. I wouldve at least changed the helmets/visors

Yes, I would have kept the suits. The reason I hated Zeo as a kid is because they finally changed the suits. So if they got new suits earlier, I'd have been even more angry. I didn't like change. Still don't. Also, I find the Dairanger suits horribly ugly outside of white and pink (the skirt helps).

But the theme had stopped being dinosaurs with season 3. The Ninja theme really didn't fit the suits, iconic or not. It would have made absolutely no sense to keep them beyond the wall decorations that they became at the back of the Power Chamber in Zeo.
The choice to splice together the footage like they did was why Tommy gained the God-like status. Because he was always the one going after either Goldar or when the footage did and did not allow it, because of the suits, he fought the extra monsters reused.
By the time Zeo came around, the show needed some change BADLY, set-wise and power-wise. I'm sure all of that splicing was expensive to do. Changing to adapt Ohranger meant they could go back to the way season 1 MM was, and fully adapt this season.

The dinosaur motif on the zyurangers suits never seemed that blatant to me to be a distraction when they droppes the dinosaur theme entirety in season 3. I don't think I even realized their helmets were designed from their partron dinosaur until I was 13?
I would have preferred that they exhausted the zyu2 footage and then swith to Dairanger just because the Dairanger fight choreography was some great stuff we missed out on and the season 2 ground fights were non existant outside of Goldar and Putties.

Also, no cockpits in the zords besides the American made one for the Thunder Megazord and Tommy's. They fixed that in season 3 though.
Only one individual zord fight, and not all zords weapons were used and I'm not real sure why? There was a second weapon for the Thunder Megazord that wasn't used, it combined the tail of the firebird and the red dragon humanoid staff.

At the very least, I would've made new helmets. Almost all of the ranger footage was american footage anyways. I would've just re sculpted the MMPR helmets to be whatever animals they were at that point.
It's not so huge of a change that Zeo wouldn't be so special, but it's the kind of change that makes more sense than a frog ranger having a mastodon helmet.

Not really. I would've just kept the characters and just use the US versions of Sentai villains from Dai and Kaku for MMPR 2 and 3 (Lord Zedd and villains already had their original footage in S2 anyway). Make sure the same cast stays until the end of S3 (would require more finances and better production conditions, sure, but at least the story wouldn't have fallen apart after 80 episodes). Maybe I'd use Lord Zedd for Zeo instead of the Machine Empire and use whatever unused monsters from Zuy, Dai and Kaku and find a way to bring the Organger villain footage into the mix, since that Super Sentai season is short . Set up a cast change during MMPR S3 for use in Zeo and also, set up one DURING Zeo and go trough with it in the T: APRM, so MMPR's, Zeo's and Turbo's would not be the same people using multiple powers. Maybe still introduce the Robot Ranger concept for the Legendary Battle so it still makes at least a little sense.

I wouldn't have changed the suits. (mind you I didn't grow up with MMPR. But I'm aware of how iconic it is) but it made sense not to change it. It would have taken the audience out. Season 3 would have worked because everyones wants a bit of change there.

With the loss of Jason, Zack, and Trini, changing the suits to Dairanger would've been a bit too much change for most kids to handle, and a lot of them would've tuned out. Myself included.
The Kakuranger suits would've fit thematically with season 3. But for me, season 3 is the most fun MMPR season to watch, and the fact that they still have the original MMPR suits but with higher quality (Saban-taped) morphed footage, is a major part of that. So for nostalgia's sake, it still wouldn't have been the right time to change. Zeo was the right time.

I'd have liked to see the suites actually - They could have been used for a power upgrade like the pirate suites in Super Mega Force.
That could have worked.

I would have kept them for season 2 but changed the suits for season 3 right off the bat. When they get the Ninja powers I would've changed the suits for that.
