I wasnt saying that any girl that dont wear a skirt gay. Lets not even start that narrative. What im saying is that could be PR way of kinda introducing a gay character. Thats what we are asking for right? I know gay women that wear skirts. But im not gonna get into all that. No need. But for the sake of tv and shock factor/ build up. The ripping of the skirt couldve been a statement.

^ There doesn't need to be a statement. If it was a male ranger stripping a skirt, would that be a statement of heterosexuality? No, it wouldn't. Straight guys can also wear skirts. Using a bi/homosexual character for the sake of shock factor like you suggest is the same as tokenism. This is a universe with a 65000000 year-old dinosaur-riding alien knight with retractable antennae who thinks "cool cool coolio" is a good catchphrase, there are more shocking things to be shocked about!

“I don’t want it to be forced” is just code for “This makes my bigoted sensibilities uncomfortable”
Considering there’s usually at least one heterosexual romance per season sometimes multiple and many of them problematic I don’t see how having a gay character is forcing anything. Especially from a franchise that always done diversity. Usually poor diversity but all the same imagine someone saying “uggh an asian and black person on the team? Why the forced diversity”

Literally every single time a gay couple kisses on a show or movie the old bitty brigade comes out (no pun intended) with their “It’s just so FORCED” nonsense.

Im going to back track the statement I said on this a little bit. At the point its almost the best time to introduce a gay ranger. Power rangers always have been known to spead love and powerful messages. At this point they could just have the ranger in there like its normal. No hype, no promo. But when that ranger have their episode they could address it in ranger fashion…

Hmm... after hearing this, I think I wouldn't mind having a gay, lesbian, or bisexual Ranger on the team. Would there be some nay-sayers? Yeah, of course, but I think it would make Power Rangers more watchable and have people who are in the gay community be able to see themselves being heroic like how DC and Marvel have done in many years of their media. If they were to add a gay character, they should treat that character like a person and not a token, like everyone else is saying here.

She was “questioning” which is just as important as actual representation but it’s still not representation. Also the movie is separate from the tv series and let’s be honest the movie is largely forgotten by people at this point.

^Not every girl who doesn't like skirts has to be a lesbian. A good number of them are just tomboys yet are as straight as they come. You’re right but Kelsey was definitely a lesbian and in love with the astronaut lady so…

Speaking to those who feel others saying they "don't want it to be forced" is masking bigotry I will say that as a gay man I also don't want it to feel forced. By this I mean we don't need to see any episodes solely focused on the fact that a character is gay (i.e., "JJ's Coming Out"), but if it was an episode where there's a dance and a male character happens to ask another male (or female asks a female) to be their date then that's great! If there's attention specifically drawn to it and a big deal is made from it then it's forced and doesn't feel genuine. Having the rest of the crew act normal when JJ shows up to the dance with Peter just as they would when Milo shows up with Karla has more of an impact and shows the younger viewers watching that it's just normal.

Have you seen the international episode. I haven't my self. But way spoilers say. I don't think it's stereotypical.

"She doesn't like skirts and plays sports, she must be gay!" is a common stereotype, yes. But I really don't think it's that big of a deal in this case. I'm just more happy that they finally got the chance to get an LGBTQ ranger that wasn't just hinted at or only confirmed after the fact.
We got something good here.
