I am not sure if I have posted this topic a few years ago. But, I did posted a thread that had a video on the Onyx Tavern's discussion on the history of Evil Power Rangers and he did went on about the possibility that the A-Squad might be under mind-control by Omni, but that's just his theory. However, I had to look back at this video after rewatching the season of Power Rangers SPD and I had this real issue about the team being "evil by choice". Now, I know that Greg Aronowitz did say that he wanted to pitch in a group of Power Rangers who did choose the be evil on their own terms and yes, Bridge did say in the first episode that their colors were off, but, my problem with that I don't know who any of these individual A-Squad characters are. The revelation that the A-Squad chose to be evil is there, but, I just don't know who these individual characters are. Like, who are the characters of Charlie (Red), Beevor (Blue), Cliff (Green), Ivan (Yellow) and Rachel (Pink) individually? And how do we know that were evil from the beginning? What's their backstories? How come we don't anything their origin stories and why they were recruited by Doggie Cruger? That's what I wanted to know. I would love to have a prequel series that focuses on the A-Squad as individual characters, maybe learn from their perspectives on how they see the world of New Tech City, or something like that. Then get to the moment where they joined forces with Gruumn. That way, the betrayal would have more importance behind it. I mean, for example, in Disney's "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command," it was revealed that Warp Darkmatter was already working for Emperor Zurg from the beginning ever since he was recruited by Star Command. That actually made more sense to why he would later come back as Agent X. But in SPD, I can't say the same for the A-Squad being evil by choice because they don't really give us more time to get to know who these individual characters are before it was time to focus on the B-Sqaud and their endeavors. At least with the Alien Rangers, we know that we don't have much time to flush them out as individual characters in 10 episodes, but the A-Squad pfft! Screw them.
But, I guess that's how it is nowadays. So, I don't know if we're ever gonna get a prequel series that focuses in a A-Squad in the near-future, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.
So, we'll see. But what about you guys? What do we think?

I think the obvious reason might be that the writers wanted to do proper story for turning A-Squad Evil but the budget given by Disney might have killed the idea since it would require a lot of original footage on a season which already had a lot of original footage .I mean we were obviously hinted in the first episode that something was wrong with them so writers must be aware of what to do with them.

I think the best thing in SPD is the fact there is no "good guys" and "bad guys" in SPD, there were also traitors and schemers, like Sky Tate's friend. Also, bureaucrats and harsh leaders, like Cmdr. Birdie. It's truth the A-Squad never have a proper arc, or something to explain why they decide to go with Gruumm, but brain-washing...... I dunno, it's too obvious. I prefer to say they are corrupt, and Gruumm offered money and power, for their help. It gave them something to differentiate them from the rest, and to differentiate SPD from other series.

Well, I did argued before that we should have gotten a five-issuse comic book mini-series by Boom! Studios that actually gave each individual A-Squad members their own backstories leading up to the moment where they finally revealed themselves as traitors. But yeah, brainwashing is WAAAAAYYY too damn obvious!! Plus, we've already seen that happened before with other characters like Tommy, Billy, the Dark Rangers, the Blue Centurion, Hunter and Blake, Leanbow, Tenaya 15 (I think!!), Kevin, Robo Knight, Levi. So yeah, it's getting too repetitive and boring at this point.
