Okay, we all know why Jason, Zack and Trini left both in show and behind the scenes. But there are areas of this that I'm left with a blank space with and was wanting to talk about them.
Was it specifically JDF coming back and getting the rather large pay increase and promotion for character Tommy?
Were Austin, Walter and Thuy fired or did they walk?
Why weren't David and Amy fired or walk too?
It's this last one that I am most curious about as I have NEVER seen anything to say how these two felt about the changes.

I am pretty sure it's mostly pay issues and the non sag status of the show. Which caused the 3 to leave.

It wasn't because of JDF coming back. It was because seeing as how that they knew that they were going to be filming a movie during the second season and that the show was most defiantly seeing success that they felt that for the amount of hours they worked, that they should at least see some more money and when Saban said no on the pay raise, that was when Austin, Walter, and Thuy had just walked off and quit. The three of them had stop doing ADR before the Green No More two parter as can be notice starting in Welcome to Venus Island. Both Walter and Austin had stop doing ADR before that episode but Thuy had done ADR for that. Then from there on, she too had stop doing ADR. And of course after Opposites attract was filmed, was when Austin, Walter, and Thuy had officially walked off and quit. As for that last one you are wondering on, they at the time weren't worry about getting a pay raise(as far as I know anyway).

I vagly remember reading an article were all six were going to walk out together but Austin,Jones, and Thuy had said the other 3 didn't need to, or something along those lines (or I might be suffering from the Mandela effect)

iceranger32: Well, that sucks. I guess maybe if they hadn't complained about wanting more money, then perhaps Mr. St John, Mr. Jones and Ms. Trang would've done the 1995 movie with their co-stars.

xman:
I know that Walter has said it, but not sure if ASJ has but Walter did mention that he wished he would have stayed long enough to do the movie. It was their choice to walk out as they weren't fired as they just walked off and quit, and you can't really blame them for wanting to ask for more pay since it was a over night sensation back then. And in all honesty, they did deserve to get more money then they did for the amount of hours they put in a day. They had put in like 15 to 18 hours a day(and for the most part, that doesn't even include the ADR sessions.) And plus, at that time, the show wasn't union. It didn't become a union show until either when In Space or Lost Galaxy was filming and/or airing up until the move to New Zealand.

The best part of this situation was the in show explanation. A World Peace Conference. Really? That doesn't sound like something permanent. Why not give up their powers temporarily? (I know the actors walked but the story explanation was poor).

Ya they all should have gotten a raise. The few I met have said they where making only a couple hundred dollars a week per filming. Which was peanuts even at that time.

^Yes, especially since they were also filming 3 to 5 episodes a day. Hence, the 15 to 18 hour days of filming.

They left because they during that time PR was a billion dollar company and they were getting only a few hundred a week. It was so bad ASJ and Walter shared an apartment. The hours were long as crap also. AJJ and David wanted to leave but they didnt want to burn the bridge, so they stay a little and were wrote off. Jason came back because Saban offered a nice check for him to do Turbo and be the Gold Zeo ranger. If you ever watch their comic con interviews, they talk about it all the time. Tommy was the loyal one which is why he got the pay. He was only supposed to be there for the green ranger arc but he was so popular they brought him back as the white ranger who was suppose to be someone completely different. They also kept him around because Zeo was losing fans and after the Turbo movie they finally decided to write him off but they kept Justin. Believe it or not he was the popular ranger of Turbo. Kids loved him because... You know.. What kid didnt want to be a ranger??

fuferthought: JDF actually wanted to leave after Zeo but was convinced to stay on for the first half of Turbo before writing him off. And it was then decided to write off the rest of them minus Blake Foster to go with a fresh approach on the show.

So when the three left, it was at the time when they shot the amount of episodes they were contracted to do, right? They did 80 MMPR episodes total, although Austin St. John didn't physically appear in "Beauty and the Beast".

^That's true and obviously by that time, he had stop doing ADR for the show too so it is possible that when he left along with Walter and Thuy that he hadn't had the chance to film his scenes for that episode yet. Or, it could even be possible that he wasn't originally set to appear unmorphed in the episode to begin with.

Apparently ASJ [guess he was the leader in real life too] organized a meeting with the others and basically said we're not being treated fairly, we're underpaid so if they don't pay us let's leave. They all agreed according to ASJ. When Saban refused to give raises (to all six) ASJ Walt and Thuy left as planned while the other three last minute backed out.
