You forgot about Masao Kurenai from Kiva & Kotaro Nogami from Den-O. Both were adults when we met them. And Shin's mutated unborn son!

^ I was talking about the last five years when the number of baby plots started to pick up steam
I noted one of the early preview shots had Garu missing from a battle scene, I wonder if that's where he is during that scene? If so, why? To even up the teams (Xiao is also not in the shot?)
And on the subject of the Mother's Day special (since it ties in with this movie) I wish people would stop saying "Houka's husband should be Tetsuya!" (the gross nerdy guy she was going to marry in that one episode to save his life.) There would be literally no purpose behind that other than "so it can be the character we recognise." She wasn't even in a relationship with him, and the reason they called the wedding off was *because* she didn't like him that way. It's unrealistic that someone like her wouldn't meet *anyone* else in a decade, and pretty insulting - Urara gets Mr Perfect Prince of Magitopia whereas Houka gets saddled with this loser?

God, I love the sillyness of this. Hell, I wanted more spin-off like that. Also it's awesome to see again Nao and the Ayumis (more Jasmine, than Houka). Also the kids are cute (if they not transform in Rangers).

^ They're probably a little too young lol. These kids are 4-5 and the youngest child ever to transform as a Ranger is (so far) Kiba Ranger, who was 9

^ You're never too young to be a Ranger in the eyes of Toei. LOL. And please, don't invoke the name starting with the letter K. I have bad memories of him.

Well, I just finished my rewatch on Kyuuranger and....I am not gonna sugarcoat it, but Jesus Christ!!! this was a long-ass series. Aside from episodes 07-09, episode 38 and episodes 26-31. I just did not like any of the other arcs or give a damn about any of the characters that aren't Shou Lonpou, Balance, Naaga or even Tsurugi Ohtori. I am sorry, but these other seven main Kyuurangers just bored me to death with the empty platitudes about teamwork and believing in one's luck or whatever generic bullshit the witers just pulled out of their asses. I am just not a fan of Sparda, or Hame, or Raptor 283, or Garou, or Koutarou or even Lucky of all people. Seriously, Lucky is like my least-favorite out of all the main Kyuurangers. And it's not because of his annoying catchphrase, but really. He's just kind of bland. It's like the writers are trying to make Lucky into a less-cooler version of Kouta Kazuruba from Kamen Rider Gaim once he got the Orion Mode and became the newly-appointed king of his own people. The villains are just boring, except for Scorpio and the movie-exclusive antagonists. But other than that, I just didn't like any of the villains from this series. And I guess Champ and Stinger are okay, but really. The whole "bromance" relationship between them is just too much.
So, overall. Space Sentai Kyuuranger isn't as much as a hot-mess as I thought it was when I was watching it again for the second time. But, it's not really my favorite sentai series in comparison to Lupinranger vs Patoranger, Magiranger, Gokaiger, Gekiranger and Abaranger.
P.S. I don't believe that the Kyuurangers' summer movie and "Episode of Stinger" are even tied to the main TV storyline at all. They bought feel like they're in their own universes. So, no offense to Toei and the rangerwiki pages of these two movies, but I say that is a load of bullshit telling everyone that these movies are cannon, in which...they're not. They are officially non-cannon, in my opinion.

I finally finished Kyuranger and while the show became significantly better after the end of Stinger's arc and the introduction of Ohtori Tsurugi, the legendary savior Phoenix Soldier, there were still some of the same problems preventing it from reaching its full potential. I'll start with the stuff that sucked and proceed to what I liked, since the moral of this show is optimism after all.
Leo Red is always going to look like Gosei Knight's derpy brother. Sometimes there are bad designs and unfortunately, Kyuranger had a lot of these which I just had to tolerate. Oh well.
In the first 20 episodes, there are 11 characters. Except only 2 of them actually matter in the plot! Seriously, with such a large team of rangers, why do Lucky and Stinger get all the focus? Even after the end of Stinger's arc, he gets his own V-Cinema, instead of another ranger who desperately needs more focus like Spada.
Inevitably, with so many characters from the start, I expected a lot of problems. This is why I think it's better to stick to the sweet spot range of 7, which by no co-incidence, is the exact number of rangers I cared about from this show. As for the remaining 5?
Garu is just there. I saw potential in him, he had the backstory and the attitude, but he immediately stagnated, becoming little more than Lucky's faithful sidekick. He only had 1 focus episode, revolving around his envy of Lucky's luck, and in the epilogue, we learn how he chose to travel the universe with Lucky. I'm disappointed. This isn't what I consider a real character, it's just moral support.
Champ is meh. There's nothing I hate about him but nothing I really like about him either. His arc was good enough I guess with the twist about his creator working for Jark Matter and his berserker chip, if only he had more depth instead of talking about justice all the time and begrudging Stinger for a crime he didn't commit.
Stinger is depressing and a cliche. His arc could've been compressed easily and he really didn't need as much focus as he got. You might think I'm biased due to the color of his suit but that's not the case and based on the character alone, I think it could've been executed more smoothly. Seeing him go to fight Jark Matter on his own while Champ was in the shop was frustrating.
"Talk about lucky!" I mean, let's talk about Lucky. In my opinion, he's not a natural leader and he's definitely not fit to be the king of the Leo System. However, in the latter half, he was admittedly the heart that united the team. That didn't stop him from being annoying though and you might be surprised to hear, I like Takaharu, so yeah.
Still, Lucky is 1000000x more likable and tolerable than Raptor! She can just join Rin and Amy in the worst pinks ever club, there isn't anything I like about her. She never stopped throwing tantrums and it was even used as a plot device when Shou saw through the Aquila Pink clone for not throwing a tantrum! They should've let Eris replace her.
Out of the 7 that I cared about, 4 didn't get the focus they needed.
Spada was a very likable character on the surface displaying great knowledge about leadership, teamwork and cooking that made him the most mature member of the team. Too bad he never really got the chance to shine that he deserved. It always felt like Lucky overshadowed him.
I didn't like Hammy from the start but I grew to like her. Unfortunately, I can't recall a single good episode focused on her and like Spada, she was also overshadowed by Lucky, something she regularly complained about.
I heard Shou got focus in the movie which I have yet to find as a DDL or stream that I can watch. In the show, he was usually in the background although being the mentor, I didn't expect him to have a lot of focus anyway.
Koutarou was a character I think existed for us to relate to, being the first Terran to join the Kyurangers until Tsurugi was released from his cryochamber.
Another problem was the pacing which was too inconsistent. Most notably, the way Sky Blue's debut immediately succeeded Draco Commander's or how we got Leo Red and Lupus Blue in the first episode or interrupting Stinger's introduction to the team for a Raptor focus I frankly don't care about or killing a general like Eridron in only 5 episodes.
And what the hell was up with the random sudden implied Spada/Raptor ship in the final arc? There was like 1 scene of foreshadowing and nothing else that led up to it! Personally, I think Spada could do better than Raptor. There's Hammy, Eris, even Madako and her multiple personae.
That pretty much summarizes everything I hate about this show. Despite all these major flaws, there were some good parts. Balance, Naga and Tsurugi are awesome and somehow, it didn't feel like they lacked focus. The BN Thieves had one of the most enjoyable long arcs where Naga turned in to the evil Ophiuchus Metal and Balance had to save him using the power of friendship. It was totally worth it to see Naga unlock his real emotions throughout the show and how he and Balance always had each other's backs. Tsurugi probably had as much focus as Lucky and Stinger since his backstory was directly linked to Don Armage. I liked his "Holy moly!" catchphrase as well.
The tako =/= taco joke was pretty humorous. See, this is the kind of comedy Spada is capable of when they utilize him correctly.
I thought the plot twist with Don Armage's secret identity being Tsurugi's old friend Kuervo all along was unexpected. Until that point, there wasn't anything remarkable about Don except that he succeeded in conquering the galaxy and faked his death. Surprisingly effective execution of that plot. I also thought the moment between Lucky and his father in the Crux System was touching, one of the few times where "Talk about Lucky!" wasn't annoying and actually sad.
Overall, I don't regret watching Kyuranger! I consider it below average with a few amazing episodes worth watching like the Space Squad crossover. Well that's it, I'm prepared for the Space Squad crossover movie when it releases in August and I hope it will show us more about Hammy, the source of conflict between the Kyurangers.

^ You finally finished it. I've been waiting to get your thoughts. You said a lot of thing I agree with and a lot of things I disagree with, but I've more than said my piece on this show, so I'm not gonna touch on everything, and I'm not gonna harp on it too much, but there are some things I want to mention and ask.
1) You like Eris? I know you complain about Raptor, and I agree, I don't like her either, and she was a complete waste of Mao Ichimichi's time and talent, but Eris, to me, was just obnoxious.
2) I shouldn't be surprised you like Tsurugi as much as you do, because when that show was airing, he was the character that was starting to bring everyone back and give them hope for the show, but I was on an island, because I found him very unlikable and annoying, and I hated that first arc. He did slowly start to grow on me eventually as the show went on, once he stopped being an unlikable jerk.
3) As for the crossovers, I liked everything about the Ex-Aid crossover episode except for the actual crossover. I like Ex-Aid, but the Ex-Aid Kyutama thing just doesn't make sense to me at all, and I thought it was pointless. With Dekaranger, I was looking forward to it because Dekaranger is one of my favorite sentais, and the head writer, Naruhisa Arakawa, wrote episodes 17 and 18. I like episode 17, but surprisingly didn't like episode 18.
4) What did you think about that payoff to the Uncle Orion thing? Did you think it was as stupid as I thought it was?

^ Eris is a little on the obnoxious side, yeah. Especially what she did to Balance offscreen, that was cold. But between her and Raptor, I think she was at least barely tolerable and would've made a better Kyuranger.
I can empathize with the whole island thing since I'm usually in the minority about a lot of opinions I have but in this case there was definitely a correlation between my enjoyment and Tsurugi's introduction.
Regarding the crossover in episode 7, although I liked EX-Aid's cameo and appreciate how it didn't interrupt the plot, I agree that Shou just having the Kyu Globe for no reason was ridiculous, the same as Lucky's cameo in EX-Aid even though Lucky comes from the distant future and an alternate universe. It didn't make sense. However, if the lack of crossovers in Build and LupinPatren and the end of SHW movies are considered, these contrived cameos won't happen again for a while.
Which Orion are talking about here, the spaceships or the ancestor of Lucky from centuries ago?

^ I meant that thing episode 32 about the ship Orion. The show never made it clear that the ship is sentient. They hint at it once, in episode 4, and it doesn't come back again until that episode, when Raptor says she's being delusional. Then the ship sacrifices itself, and it comes out of nowhere, and the show acts like we were supposed to care, and act like Raptor learns some profound lesson. I thought that whole Uncle Orion thing and that whole episode in general just mindbogglingly stupid.
By the way, what did you think of that baseball episode?
On another note, have you seen episodes 14 and 15 of LvP yet? I know some people fell off of it because of the filler, but episodes 14 and 15 are a 2-parter, Patranger-focused character development pair of episodes, and are some of the best episodes in the show so far, and are worth watching as soon as possible.

^ Oh right, the original Orion spaceship. Yeah, it kind of came out of nowhere that it turned out to be sentient and bid them Good Luck before its destruction but I suppose seeing any base destroyed, sentient or otherwise, is a big deal. Maybe they should've hinted at the revelation more frequently instead of just once.
The baseball episode was okay and I'm glad Spada got another focus episode since episode 22.
I'm planning to resume LupinPatren in approximately 2 weeks. I've heard 14 and 15 are heavily focused on the Patrangers and the debut of Trigger Machine Crane and Drill which gets me excited. Hopefully after the blunder of filler, my motivation will be restored when the show gets back to what it does best.

I finally saw Kyuuranger vs. Space Squad and I liked it. I say it's even better than the main Kyuuranger TV series.
